For all the people who are bashing china, Let's get a reality check. Chinese workers are much more disciplined and professional in their work ethics.
Stick a Chinese worker in front a computer with internet access and see how LAZY they really are. They will get away with anything they can.

the workers in china have no other option but to work. strikes and unions are not allowed. repressive measures are taken in case workers go off the plant or demand anything. link this with todays usa workers who are in desperate need of work/job. they wont indulge in this thing so comparatively more advantageous to produce in usa for usa cos+ obama tax relief and benefit for home investors.

however India stands even behind china in workers unrest and tackling it by both govt and managers. because workers protests are more political than anything near to justified objections and presentation/demonstration. strikes are sometimes conducted to show the strength of respective unions and nothing else

If Indian workers can't work with a lower wage than Chinese, no manufacturing will be shifted to India.
This is true actually, we fall behind in terms of infrastructure, so to lure the companies our labor costs have to be much lower than the Chinese.

What's the problem for China to lose some low-cost manufacturing? We don't want sweater shop any more, let Vietnam, Bangladesh, India have it then we import products from these countries to balance the trade which we have huge surplus. We need upgrade our manufacturing base to world-class and invest money into innovation and education. We should design and make more cars, airplane, machinery, computers in the future.

Where have those once 'low manufacture' players gone? Japan, S.Korea, Taiwan, and even Macao, and Hongkong?

Back to fundamentals. u may boast of a few "a vast pool of young and educated personnel ". but when it comes to 'manufacturing' it's not about a few doctors, masters or MBAs but an overall elevation of labor force at all levels. In China 9-year compulsory education has been enforced for decades. And illiteracy is almost nil.
And infrastuctures - let's see where an Indian port is ? Or how many Chinese ports are among the top rankings?.

Top 50 World Container Ports
The No.1 Indian port Nhava Sheva ranks only 26th in the world

Nowadays how cheap 'coolies' can be seems not a core strength. But what most matters include a mass of workforce with upgraded educational level / competence , total logististics, and beyond...

True its a sign that China economy is transforming the Chinese growth was largely driven by its manufacturing base which is normal now its economy will continue its transformation moving from a largely secondary sector to the tertiary one.
India missed its industrial revolution its imperative because to provide jobs for masses we need large factories
