China to open its first military base abroad in Indian Ocean - The Times of India

lets see how the GOI will respond to this step...(if they've any guts to give..)

but guys what are you thinking...what'll be the right step on this issue?? should we make another military base in South china sea (in this case it'll be in Vietnam)? but can we manage that? (financially or diplomatically)

We already have an anti-piracy base in Seychelles, same as China, relax.

It's not a Navy base. It is basically nothing to be worried about. China does not have any type of military presence to influence IOR like India or the US can. Seychelles is well within our influence. They won't go around giving the Chinese a military base on their land. Piracy is a problem for China, India as well as Seychelles. This is of benefit to all three countries.

India has air support from the mainland and Nicobar, US has Diego Garcia while China has nothing. Without an Air base a Naval base is next to useless.

Well, this base is not in india's border. And the point is there has been bases for US & UK since long time, indian ocean is never india's ocean.
So why so angry when you just got a new guy in this area?

It is good that China is putting up outpost in the Indian Ocean.

When access to the IOR is blocked, the fun will start!
