China delivers warship to Pakistan: navy

Thu Jul 30, 12:18 pm ET
KARACHI (AFP) – China on Thursday delivered the first of four state-of-the-art frigates commissioned by nuclear-armed Pakistan from top ally Beijing, a naval spokesman said.
"The first F-22P Frigate constructed for the Pakistan navy at the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai was delivered to Pakistan on Thursday," said Lieutenant Commander Shakeel Ahmed.
In keeping with contracts signed between China and Pakistan in 2005, the frigates will be equipped with anti-submarine helicopters, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles and other defence systems.
"The F-22P frigates will not only enhance the war fighting potential of the Pakistan navy but will also strengthen the indigenous ship-building capability of the country," said Ahmed.
The announcement came two days after Pakistan hit out at India, branding its rival's first nuclear-powered submarine "detrimental" to regional peace and vowing to take "appropriate steps" to maintain a "strategic balance".
Relations between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan have plummeted since Islamist gunmen killed 166 people in Mumbai last November, attacks that New Delhi blamed on banned Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
India on Sunday launched the first of five planned submarines by naming the 6,000-tonne INS Arihant (Destroyer of Enemies), powered by an 85-megawatt nuclear reactor that can reach 44 kilometres an hour (24 knots).
China is Pakistan's strongest ally and Islamabad relies heavily on Beijing for its defence needs.
Many Chinese companies operate in Pakistan and China is involved in the construction of a deep-sea port at Gwadar on the Arabian Sea.

How does the F22 P compare with the Talwar class and the Shivalik Class?

Why are Chinese frigate so much cheaper compared to even Shivalik which is built in India?

It doesn't even come close to measuring up against the Shivalik.Neither in sophistication of weapons or electronics.

It's armed with C-803 supersonic missiles, and they are proven weapon systems. Just ask the Israelis.

And the Harbin Z-9 anti-sub helicopters are upgraded licensed productions of the French Eurocopter Dauphin, a formidable bird in its own right.

Read up on F-22P. It has Russian 76mm gun. Pak Navy doesn't trust 100mm Chinese gun on this Frigate. The same goes for SAM and other missiles. China reverse engineered French Crotale and named it HQ-7.

C-803 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Read up on the missile.

"Some news reports indicate that this was supposedly the missile used[6] on July 14, 2006 in the 2006 Lebanon War when Hezbollah fired two at Israeli warships.[7][8] The two missiles hit the corvette INS Hanit, causing significant damage and four fatalities."

This missile was the old C-802 sub-sonic missile.

It is not a copy, it is a licensed upgraded production of the Dauphin, the very same manner in which you can say that the MKI is just a Russian copy.

we'll just have to make more ATV's to counter, and maybe add AEGIS along with the BARAK-8'S.

India does not have the tech to make an AEGIS system. So far, I think the only countries in Asia who have done so is Japan and SK.

    Speculation..and nothing concrete.

Anyways, how will the AEGIS system, designed to stop BM's, do anything against anti-ship cruise missiles??

BARAK 8 will be used but it gives us an excuse to buy AEGIS against China and get the full transfer of technology. Also Brahmos will most likely take these frigates out at the port.
