BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- China has become the world's third-largest tourist destination, receiving 135 million inbound travelers in 2011, said a tourism official.

Shao Qiwei, head of the China National Tourism Administration, also said Friday that China has seen a rapid growth in outbound travel and has become highly significant in sustaining the growth of global tourism.

Chinese people made a total of 70.25 million visits to other countries or regions in 2011, making it the biggest source of outbound tourists in Asia, according to Shao.

Women's favorite tourism destinations unveiled

Recently, the Chinese online tourism Website of qunar.com published the Report on Women's Tourism Tendency 2011, which shows that tourism has turned into an essential part for modern women's life. The percentage of women's decisions on tourism has increased from 65 percent to 85 percent, and women are usually deciders on the destination, route, hotel and means of transport and some other things.

Regarding the tourism destination, female tourists favor places with such characters as romance, shopping and cultural atmosphere.

In 2011, the top 10 tourism destinations favored most by women are Lijiang, Sanya, Xiamen, Chengdu, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Qingdao and Hangzhou.

The top 10 outbound tourism destinations favored most by women are Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Bali Island, Phuket, Maldives, Paris, London and Prague.

The report shows that 40 percent of the women spend less than 3,000 yuan per journey and 30 percent of them spend more than 5,000 yuan per journey. The tourist chain hotel, youth hotel, motor court and family hotel are most popular for many women.
