Children on leashes in brick factory

HAINING, Zhejiang - Children of kiln workers at a brick/tile factory in the town of Dingqiao in Haining, some 125 km west of Shanghai, have been leashed to the workshop's windows with rope by their parents.

It is believed that the parents of these children do not have time to look after them while they are away at work.

They have resorted to these measures because they are afraid that their children will get into an accident if left unsupervised.

It is also understood that these children are leashed for nearly 10 hours every day.

There is no daycare for these immigrant workers so all they have left is to chain the children while they work. Otherwise they would be snatched and sent to the slave trade.

atleat we indians are better though not exactly a bleeding heart most factories which have lot of working mother have cretches and shelters with an adult caring for the whole kids.Otherwise an adult will be there for the whole kids. The kiln owner might have had a worker dedicated to see the whole kids

Even in the richest province, there are poor people who are struggling to support their families.

Without a doubt, the children's parents are not doing a good job in taking care of them. We have a lot of reasons to criticize ther irresponsible parents. But other than that, what else can we do? Have you thought about the reason behind these phenomenon.

What is causing this? I believe it is poverty. No parents are willing to do this to their own children unless they have to.
Obviously, the parents are not able to pay someone else to take care of their children or send them to child-care centre. Neither could they afford to take care of them by themselves because they have life to support. Trapped in a dilemma, the parents choose this extreme way. I know many people will say it is inhuman, but the reality is always cruel.

Hope they will have a good life in the future.

other than 'poverty' in my opinion

1) lack of a comprehensive 'social securtiy' net, and a widened regional disparity
those local residents (with hukou) in Zhejiang Province may be taken good care of but not those migrant workers and their kids from under developed provinces (inland/west)

2) law enforcement
there're lots of fancy laws/regulations in China saying the 'working class' is the masters of the country. but that's a cheap talk in fact if they're not well implemented such as of 'Children Rights', or "Laborer Rights'

Primitive Captitalism with nothing more than 'animal spirit' is far worse than 'ineffecient' Socialism!
