In the 1950s, the British strategic forces had devised a plan for mining the German frontier against Soviet/ east German aggression, using nuclear bombs. These bombs would have been buried underground and detonated remotely or by timer (7 dayS). To prevent the bombs from freezing - different concepts of insulation and heating of the bombs were planned. One of them was to use LIVE CHICKENS! Left with food and water, the chicken body heat was supposed to have kept the bombs functional for 7 days.
