The government has decided to institute an inquiry into the reported presence of two militants, suspected to be from strife-torn autonomous Russian province of Chechnya, in the Kashmir Valley.

Official sources said the Home Ministry has asked the Intelligence Bureau and other concerned agencies to look into the matter and report its findings.

They said the inquiry was ordered following media reports that two militants from the Chechnya, identified only by their code names of Umar and Usman, were spotted from a photograph recovered by the Jammu and Kashmir police during a recent anti-militancy operation in Sopore, 52kms from Srinagar.

The photograph had shown the alleged Chechen militants armed to teeth with latest assault rifles and other ammunition, sources said.

They said more than 60 militants, mostly foreigners, are active in Sopore district of Baramulla in north Kashmir.

Any guesses what are these scumbags doing in our country? To me, this resembles a grand plan Soviet-Afghan style where radicals from Pakistan are inviting foreign Islamists to fight on their behalf alongside local terrorist organizations.

Time to re-think that joint-counter terror exercise we had with Russia and to put it to real use. What do you say, guys?

Pakistan specially the ISI with their afghan campaign in the 1980s against the Russians got the idea to use this tactic against INDIA in Kashmir, remember that the insurgency started in 1989 immediately after Russia left Afghanistan the desire "to bleed us by thousand cuts" was echoed over and over by the islamist scums.
In the initial stages the afghans even added the barbarous touch in this campaign can't remember clearly but there is an article on bharat rakshak where in the initial stages of 1989 incursion they punctured the eyes of Indian soldier and paraded his body across villages. Though this was a terrifying act given it was INDIAN land our soldiers stood up and now so called "soldiers of allah" after 20 years did not even manage to f** INDIAN soldiers who are here for good.

I really dont think the chechens identify themselves with the pakistanis. I am quite surprised at this. The chechens have their own problems so i wonder why they would come to India. The matter needs to be investigated if the reports are true.

Let's induct Putin into the armed forces.

Screw the never-ending artillery saga, that man can fix all our problems for us.

Not really, Yusuf. Chechens categorize themselves more "Islamic" than even most conservative Arabs or Iranians; a trait that they share with Pakistan. Just as the word "Shaheed" is ranted round and round in the POK encouraged by Pakistanis, a derivative term "Shakhidkha" (from the same Urdu word) has been coined up and Chechns use it for those terrorists who get squashed by Russian special forces.

Chechens and Pakistanis also share something very common: both don't identify with their origin cultures and take radical interpretation of religion as their "identity": Pakistanis their ancient Hindu culture and Chechens their Russian culture. Hence it is almost obvious why they would go hand in hand. Somalia, Chechnya, PLO, Afghan Taliban, Sudan and other such countries have a common ideology for Jihadists; wherever their version of nonsense is crushed, go and fight there.

There is difference tshering22....except pakistan all rest countries with terrorism have been invaded one time or another but here pakistan always starts war and cries like coward later on.

Plus pakistan is dustbin so naturally all dirt from around the world will end up there one way or another.

I agree wit you Ernesto. It it not true that all Chechens are bad or anti-India. Just that the bad elements are attracted to Pakistan, yet again confirming that 'birds of the same feather flock together.' Since the end of the second Russian Chechen Campaign, Chechnya has been ruled by Kadyrov and his clan and his opponents have been battered with much blessings from the Russian government. May be a few of them have felt too much heat in the mountains of Caucasus that they decided to try their understanding of 'Jihad' on India.

However, it should never come as a surprise. People have been coming to India for ages, for trade and for aggression. For example, Syed Ali Shah Geelani's ancestors came from Gilān province of Iran and settled in Kashmir. This region is just south of the Caspian Sea. In these days day, how difficult is it for a couple of Chechens to sneak into Kashmir?

Then won't it be prudent if we could just throw him out without pandering to his rants needlessly? I agree with you that Putin proved too much of a fighter to Chechn terrorists and hence they decided to "redirect" their bloody jihad against us. Knowing MMS and Co., Chechens will have a jolly time, especially with Army's hands being tied by our government. I just hope Army is as brutal as these scumbags.
