Pak troops violate ceasefire along border yet again

STAFF WRITER 21:4 HRS IST

Jammu, Feb 13 (PTI) In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops tonight fired rockets on Indian posts along the Line of Control in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior army officer said.

Pakistani troops from a forward post fired several rockets on three Indian posts along the LoC in Krishnaghati area of Poonch sector from 1815 hrs today, the officer told PTI.

The three posts targeted included Kranti, Kranti 1 and Kripan posts along the LoC, he said, adding, the rocket attacks were followed by heavy machine gun fire.

The rockets exploded away from the posts prompting Indian troops to fire in retaliation which resulted in an exchange of fire that is still on, the officer said.

This is a clear violation of the ceasefire as firing and rockets came from the Pakistani posts, he said.

Pakistan again violates LoC truce

IANS Mar 22, 2012, 11.52AM IST

JAMMU: Pakistani troops resorted to "unprovoked firing" on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district late Wednesday night, which the Indian Army described as "yet another ceasefire violation".

"There was unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side on Indian positions in the Mendhar sector (240 km northwest of Jammu) late last night. We also retaliated and firing went on for over an hour," an army officer said.

There was no loss of life on the Indian side.

"It was covering fire to push in militants. It amounts to yet another instance of ceasefire violation," the officer said. India and Pakistan had agreed to a truce on the LoC in November 2003. The army was conducting searches to find out if any militants had managed to sneak in, the officer said.

There have been more than 250 ceasefire violations by Pakistan since 2006 in which about a dozen security personnel were killed on the Indian side and 59 were injured.

"The guns were silent on the LoC from 2003 to 2006 except for an aberration here and there," the officer said, adding that the majority of the violations were in Poonch district of Jammu region, besides Kupwara and Baramulla in the Kashmir Valley.

India Should give up the Kashmir and keep the Pakistanis happy. After all they are our brothers. What we should care about is India and its Interests. I mean who cares what the Kashmiris are or what they think? As long as Indian interests are upheld right?:frusty:

Does this line of thinking sound similiar?:hmm::taunt:

But you said we can stop the killing of TN fisher men by giving in to the demands of Lankans

Why dont we do the same and protect ourselves from terrorist attacks by giving in to the Puki demands :taunt::heh:

Remember Kachathevu any how OT leave it

@Topic

I think India has been very good follower of rule book and honors every peace of paper that we have mutually agreed to accept even when they did not,

I think it's time we pay them with same bill, if the open fire we must not hesitate to do the same and see in 2-3 years they will stop, They are thinking we are weak because of our inaction.

Another ceasefire violation in Jammu; one BSF jawan killed

Jammu: A ceasefire violation that began last night has resumed at the international border in the R S Pura sector of Jammu. One BSF jawan has died,

The firing between Pakistani rangers and the Border Security Force (BSF) which had stopped for the night, started again this morning after the rangers fired at the ambush points of the BSF.

This is the third violation in the last two days.

Spurt in ceasefire violations a cause of worry
On Independence Day too, firing between the two sides started after Pakistani Rangers targetted a BSF observation post in the Hiranagar sector and fired at forward posts in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch.

There was also firing at Indian Border Out Post (BoP) of Pansar along International Border in Samba sector.

Sources in the BSF say there has been an upsurge in ceasefire violations over the last few days. They say one of the reasons could be the discovery of a secret underground 400 metres tunnel, dug at a depth of 25 feet that was recently detected in the Samba district of Jammu. The BSF fears the tunnel that ran from Pakistan to India was used to ferry men and ammunition into the country.

Sudden spike during August ?
----
Heavy firing exchanges erupted along the International border after Pakistan again violated the ceasefire by targeting Indian posts to push in a group of militants in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, where one intruder was killed. This is the fourteenth time that Pakistan has violated the ceasefire along the international border (IB) and Line of Control [ Images ] (LoC) in the last fortnight.

Pakistani Rangers fired on Indian posts of Mala Bela, Garkhal, Sidra camp and Naka Number-10 along IB in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district around 2230 hours on Sunday night, officials said. The firing was aimed to facilitate a group of militants into Indian territory.

"We observed movement of suspected militants along border," they said. BSF troops guarding the borderline fired back resulting in heavy exchanges, in which one intruder was killed and other escaped back, they said, adding firing continued till 7.30 am on Monday.

Pakistan troops also fired on the forward posts in Krishnagati belt along LoC in Poonch sector violating ceasefire late on Sunday night, they said, adding Army troops replied back and firing stopped after one hour. Pakistan has been repeatedly violating the ceasefire this month.

On August 17, there was heavy cross-border small arms firing on India [ Images ] posts along IB in Abdullian and Korotona Border Out Posts (BoPS) from Pakistan in R S Pura sub-sector in which BSF jawan Chander Rai was killed. There were two firing incidents and ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Pansar Boder Out Post (BOP) along IB in Samba sector and Krishnagati forward belt along LoC barely on August 15.

On August 13, Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts along the Indo-Pak border in Arnia sector of Jammu district.

On August 7, India has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and the International Border in the state in which two Jawans were injured. Pakistan has violated the ceasefire 37 times this year.

There were 51 cases of ceasefire violation in 2011, 44 cases in 2010 and 28 in 2009. Pakistan troops had fired on several Indian posts along Indo-Pak border in Krishnagati sub-sector of Poonch district on August 8.

On August 6, Pakistan troops had fired at Indian posts with rockets and using small arms fire to target BSF's Border outpost (BOP)of Pansar along IB in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district resulting in injuries to two BSF jawans. On the same day, Pakistan troops had opened indiscriminate fire on the forward posts along the LoC in Poonch sector and it continued intermittently for few hours as Army troops also replied.

On August 5, Pakistan Rangers fired on Indian BOPs in Kote Kuba area along IB in R S Pura sector in Jammu district. The firings and ceasefire violations by Pakistan came close on the heels of detection of 400-meter long tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir's [ Images ] Samba sector on July 28 and subsequent lodging of strong protest over the issue on July 31.
