Can an asteroid be captured into Earth's orbit

Well wondering if a speeding asteroid can be slowed down and captured into Earth's orbit and exploited for resources. The other day I read about an asteroid exploitation plan by some company. We inviolable with current technology can talk only about a nuclear explosion to slow it but a direct impact will fragment it. Can a nuke exploded at a precise moment in the asteroids potential path so that the shock slows the asteroid which then gets captured into our orbit for exploitation.

Crashing it into the moon or mining it away from Earth maybe a better idea?
