My first thoughts...

The pink haired guy is giving exactly what CNN needs to screw the Donald...

Channel 4 news who broke the story is a leftist leaning Channel, from what I understand.

By end of this calendar year we might see discussions on laws around the globe about controlling social media data mining.

=====

EXCLUSIVE: Cambridge Analytica offers to “set up fake IDs and websites” or pose as students to hide their role in election campaigns. channel4.com/news/cambridge… #CambridgeAnalyticaUncovered

In the meetings, the executives boasted that Cambridge Analytica and its parent company Strategic Communications Laboratories (SCL) had worked in more than two hundred elections across the world, including Nigeria, Kenya, the Czech Republic, India and Argentina.
Why am I not surprised?

Highly doubtful CA had any role to play in the 2014 GE for BJP as the company was founded only on December 2013 ..But the parent organisation of CA the UK based SCL Group might have played role in India for either BJP or Congress

If i am not wrong BJP had tied up with APCO Worldwide and Modi used them for promoting Vibrant Gujarat and also himself and in run upto 2014 Elections Rumours were even doing Modi is getting promoted by the Israeli groups through APCO ..

i really doubt these companies would have been any help to both political parties in the country before 2014 , Reason the countries smartphone penetration and social media penetration is also very very low compared to the overall voting population and just able to change opinion of 5 % population is not going to make then rest 45 % population to follow these 5 % ...

But CA can play a very big role in the future elections as the country is adding more young population to voter base and who are hooked 24/7 to social media ..which is why both the parties are pushing the panic button :scared2:

New reports and company records show BOTH parties - BJP and Congress were clients. LuLzzzz

SCL functions more like an Advertising/Digital Content Agency in India.

Outside of SCL/CA - where the controversy further breaks down in spreading fake news and blackmail, the one scary thing across India (all political parties) is the in-house content management teams that have been developed to "Manage" public perception. Its the China style of Bot/People let propaganda model.

FalseHoods / half truths / Truths without context seem to be the flavor of the day were people are easily manipulated into further feeding a certain view point they already hold.

I am not surprised, given that I do generate Fake Big Data using some tools like Python and bunch of libraries. I very much or rather I must say, any data engineer, analyst or scientist or personnel working with data knew that Social Media is giant place of fakery and tool for the elites to turn opinions into there favor
.In fact I know people who created fake news for both BJP and Congress campaign. Here's another fact, there our startups running to turn the tides of elections, one is in Delhi.

As Snowden told, "All you need is the right channel, one wrong news and let go the social platform into full chaos". Social Anarchy with just a click of a button.

I would suggest young parents on this forum to please, do not let them use social media platforms like FB or Twitter. Young minds can easily be mislead.

I was approached by few people to work with them, they specialise in monitoring and predicting election campaigns and do lot's of things which isn't legal in the constitution. like "spreading fake news, generating randomly million likes to tweets, fake accounts and emails, fake sentiments and routing web traffic to there news article", to which (thanks to my sanity) I denied respectfully.

You would be surprised, all it takes just 1 script of code to do any one of these.

Nevertheless, Trump impeachment process was started already the day he signed up for president. For folks like me who are aware of what the deep state can do... "He was put on the first place by them, to let the people go in social shock, there emotions will take over on there ability to rationalise things and eventually a upcoming state actor who would gain the trust of there own people to commit the wrong doing" -- That's just plain ugly.

This is not first time happening, recall you memories, it was GW Bush Jr. who used emotions of it's own people on a baseless war for Iraq and Afghanistan all in the name of WMDs.

Completely agree. i Know hedge fund guys who have left cushy jobs to come back to India to "manage teams" for data analytics in India for a certain party.

A whole new employment sub industry is being created. CA has openly stated that they use high technology platforms to manipulate video's to bend public opinon. in India couple that with watsapp and a population with deep insecurities that gets offended if a fly sat on their food imagine the consequences.

Facebook looks to be in trouble because of this CA stuff. Zuckerberg is selling shares of his company. Some big time people like Elon Musk are deleting their FB pages.

The users of Facebook freely hand their private information over to Facebook .

Facebook then sells this data, for profit, to advertising companies for tailored advertisements or consulting firms, for targetted political message.

This is Facebook's business model - the value of the company lies in the massive amount of user data that it sits on. And Mark Zuckerberg, as CEO, of Facebook has fiduciary duty to maximise corporate profits and shareholder value. So it is very difficult to see how Facebook,as a company. can change its practices ,without taking a hit to the bottom line.

Ain't that the truth?

When Obama was doing more or less the same thing ,during the 2012 Presidential elections,he was praised for getting in touch with new voters - the digital-media and social network savvy youth.

This whole scandal came about, because the "wrong guy"(Trump) was elected. I think the only objection US Democrats might make is that Cambridge Analytica is a foreign(British) company and the company Obama used in 2012, AdRoll, was an American San Francisco based company.

"Barack Obama's re-election team are building a vast digital data operation that for the first time combines a unified database on millions of Americans with the power of Facebook to target individual voters to a degree never achieved before.

Digital analysts predict this will be the first election cycle in which Facebook could become a dominant political force. The social media giant has grown exponentially since the last presidential election, rendering it for the first time a major campaigning tool that has the potential to transform friendship into a political weapon.

Facebook is also being seen as a source of invaluable data on voters. The re-election team, Obama for America, will be inviting its supporters to log on to the campaign website via Facebook, thus allowing the campaign to access their personal data and add it to the central data store – the largest, most detailed and potentially most powerful in the history of political campaigns. If 2008 was all about social media, 2012 is destined to become the "data election"."

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/feb/17/obama-digital-data-machine-facebook-election

"AdRoll in San Francisco is a firm that performs retargeting services for the Obama campaign, according to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) website. "Retargeting allows a political campaign—for example, the Obama campaign—to utilize its first-party website data to show highly personalized messaging and advertising to site visitors," says AdRoll President Adam Berke. "It's easy to segment by interests, as well. AdRoll has the ability to layer on geographic targeting, even down to congressional voting district.""

68 Journalists, Writers, Film stars, Bureaucrats have name in #CambridgeAnalytica list who were being paid ₹2-5 Lakh/month to write against PM.
We already knew that detractors of the PM were supari journalists who were receiving financial gratification from their political masters, but this claim of being on a list of people earning X lakh rs/month seems too far fetched. Why does Sagarika or Barkha need to be on a Cambridge Analytica list to get payments from Sonia? They could simply drive from their Lutyen's bungalow to Sonia's house and have their money deposited in their purse.

The whole CA scandal is about people mining data for political profiling and sending targeted messaging to sway political opinion, basically, this small marketing group is being accused of doing what Facebook had always been doing as its core business model : profiling personal data for contextual targeting.

Suckerbug pretending to be upset about it is a sham. Selling personal data has always been their business model. The CIA used Facebook/Twitter to great effect in their Arab springs and color revolutions. When the governments of those countries turned off the internet, these services immediately launched SMS based versions to keep the revolution going. It's like finding out that the hooker is not a virgin.

Wait did you take a Twitter post and post it as fact? It could well be true. But can you post some links to official CA documents/disclosures that say this/verify this?

The messages that you end up seeing on your SM feeds are manipulated both by people who understand the mechanism and by the powers to get a desired effect. This is a mixture of tech, individual and mass psychology.
For ex: Just since 2-3 days you see all anti-Modi handles working on 500days since demonitization. And they start coming prominently on your SM.
