It might be ideal to hand over the reins to Rahul Gandhi.

While it would find a chord amongst many of the lotus eaters who make a living out of praising the Gandhi clan, it will still be a Herculean task to unhinge the heavyweight limpets who have been the stalwarts and have gone to thick and thin, to give way and go into hibernation. Politics is the sustenance for them and their brood.

Congress is historically a party of status quo and ambivalence, therefore to expect dynamism would be chasing after the will o’ the wisp. A pipedream at best! The repeated failure of Rahul Gandhi to whip up sentiments with fiery speeches and populist drama via his whirlwind extensive tours in the hinterland and beyond, especially in Bihar and UP, is a salute to the sloth like avatar that the Party has acquired over the ages out of power in the crucial states.

It all very easy to goad the young man ‘to lead from the front’, but if the Army he is to lead has the dynamism of a snail and the chicanery of a mole, what can the young man do except eat crow and get disillusioned. It is no good blaming him alone for the debacle. The fault is with the rank and file. What magic can rejuvenate such a moribund morass?

The young Gandhi should chalk out the road map is suggested. A good idea! While a road map maybe an exciting alternative, but if it is not supported by the action of the governments of the Party, be it at the Centre or the States, what miracle is being expected of this young Gandhi. It takes two hands to clap! The manner in which the Centre fumbles from one scam to another, one embarrassment to another and gives the idea of being a rudderless ship, no road map can salvage the decline in faith the country has for the Congress. And the arrogant nonsense purveyed by the Congress spokespersons gives the Party away that it is a beleaguered force, titling at the windmill and totally lost like a lost cow meandering in the wilderness to find a way home and failing!

Sadly, a great party at one time is riding into the sunset and the Lone Ranger moves on his faithful steed, Silver, both totally at sea!

Actually, it will be good if Rahul Gandhi has the leadership of Congress and/or becomes Prime Minister. For several reasons. a) It will stop the clamour of the sycophants in Congress party. b) Right now the two G's, Sonia and Rahul, are functioning as behind the scene powers without any accountability. Rahul in a position of power will at least make him accountable. c) It is the tradition of Congress party since the days of Indira Gandhi that only the members of Gandhi [or should it be Ghandy as Feroze Gandhi was a Parsi and his own siblings spell their names as Ghandy] family can take the lead in the party, talent or lack of not withstanding.

They can make him Prime Minister a year or so before next elections by asking Manmohan Singh ji to vacate the seat or make him their Prime Ministerial candidate for 2014 elections.

For Indians though it is a shame that the largest and oldest national party is reduced to this state. No doubt there are good and talented persons in the organisation but they count for nothing. This is the party that boasted of persons of the calibre of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, Lal Bahadur Shastri, etc. Now it is the refuge of many scoundrels, no need to name them, and slick liars/lawyers who appear on TV defending the many scams and scandals that this govt is embroiled in. The few good people like MMS and Antony are silent spectators or do not have the ****s to speak out.

Looking at events perhaps we are in for UPA-III in 2014 with the likes of SP, BSP, TMC, NCP and DMK/AIADMK that will most definitely support the Congress to cobble together another useless government.

NCP and several other allies will never agree to it. Congress is doomed.

The Leadership issue when the Congress is not riding high is a dangerous proposition for the Gandhi family.

The Gandhi family is a mascot of the Congress Party.

If under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, the Congress declines further, he will lose credibility and his charisma.

Not a healthy thing for the Gandhi family to happen!

With the way the UPA is going, one wonders if it will return the next time around!

Hold elections among the Congress party workers, if RG wins, then he gets to be president. If the Congress party people want RG to be the head of their party, it is their choice. Just make the elections process transparent, similar to the republican/democrat primaries we see in the US.

Its about time, the Congress goes back to the original way on how the Congress party bearers were elected.

This Rahul Gandhi reminds me of Rajiv Gandhi in his early days, naive & clueless.

There is only 1 leader in AICC, who is Sonia Gandhi. Rahul as PM will be another puppet maybe of a worse kind.

Rahul Gandhi is better off starting an NGO. He needs another 7-8yrs to learn Indian politics.

What do you think, if anyone stands against Gandhi family scion(s) sycophantic Congressis will vote for them ? This is the same party members [from UP] of which wrote a book called 'Tyag mata Sonia - Rajniti ki pavitra Ganga' when she declined/was rejected Prime Ministership. Congress from the time of Indira have been brainwashed into being slaves of the first family. To be fair the same situation is there in other parties such as SP (Yadav family - Mulayam's brothers etc are MLAs, MPs etc), DMK (Karunanidhi's extended family including the Marans and Karuna's children from 3 wives), JD(S) in Karnataka (Deve Gowda family), Shiv Sena (Thakeray family), etc
