London: British Sikhs have expressed opposition to any proposed visit by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi to the United Kingdom. Mr Modi was recently invited by some British MPs of the Labour and Conservative parties to address them.

The Sikh Federation of UK joined several Muslim groups in the boycott.

"We welcome the fact that the UK government has not invited Modi, but oppose the tiny minority of pro-Indian Labour and Conservative MPs led by Barry Gardiner, the Labour MP from Brent North, and Sailesh Vara, the Conservative MP from North West Cambridgeshire, who have recently sent Modi invitations and want him to address UK MPs," said Amrik Singh, chairman of the Federation.

"Mr Modi has shown animosity and hatred towards minorities in India, including Sikhs, Christians and Muslims," he added, saying that they will lobby the UK government to oppose his visit.

The move comes after a Muslim group - Council of Indian Muslims - in an open letter addressed to the UK government expressed "utter disgust" over an invitation to Mr Modi.

The UK government, like the US, had distanced itself from Mr Modi in the aftermath of the 2002 Gujarat riots until late last year when the British high commissioner to India, James Bevan, made diplomatic overtures towards the Gujarat chief minister.
    **************

A general dislike of right-wing Hindu groups and the recent incident involving Sikh farmers in Gujarat, may have led the UK Sikh federation to harden their stance against Modi.

No one community is homogeneous. A Congress govt has ruled Punjab as recently as 2005.

One NGO speaks for the whole community? Deliberate use of inappropriate word by the biased propaganda channel.

So the British Sikhs are more concerned about Modi than those who massacred them in Delhi.

    Bully for them!

    Good show!

I think it is these chaps who are opposing are not Sikhs in general, but the Khalistani variety that finds it prudent to use any handle to embarrass India.

Modi is sounding too rational for many to tolerate foreseeing good things going to happen for India. One must see how suddenly Pakistanis have started liking Congress-I.

Argue the case for the Sikhs right to self-determination and lobbying politicians, the UK Government, official representatives of foreign governments in the UK, the European danby portable dishwasher Parliament and at the United Nations for the establishment of an independent sovereign Sikh State of Khalistan.

So NDTV is publishing views of an organization which is anti India otherwise but for them worthy today because it has said something against N.Modi ?

Haven't yet seen NDTV report on Kamal Farooqui's rant supporting IM terrorist otherwise all his anti Modi comments find quick birth in their heading slot.

Precisely. Certain media agency like NDTV will go to any extent to denigrate Modi and for them it does not matter from where the news is coming.

I think you did not read what I described in post – NDTV citing PTI for publishing this news and I tried to search this News on PTI website but I did not find it.

Be assured, I am well aware of Politics of KAMAL Farooqui and minority minister view regarding Indian mujahideen.

Press Trust of Indian is a news syndicate agency like Associated Press, Reuters, Agence-France Press etc. Any news reported by PTI is pretty much reported by all news websites & news papers in India. PTI perhaps has the largest number of reporters on ground than any other news organization in India.

That too is BS. There never was need to convert, but yes, a new name name was given Banda Bahadur, but not Singh. And he was betrayed by Sikhs themselves.
