The first export contract for the supply of Brahmos cruise missiles may be signed before the end of 2017, Alexander Maksichev, a representative of the Indo-Russian company BrahMos Aerospace told TASS on Mar. 21.

Maksichev did not name any potential customer, stressing that the export of missiles to third countries required the permission of the Russian and Indian governments.

The idea of exporting BrahMos missiles to third countries has been discussed for years. Potential clients include the UAE, Vietnam, South Africa and Chile.

BrahMos missiles are designed and produced by the Indo-Russian Joint Venture BrahMos Aerospace. The venture was formed in 1998 by India's Defence Research and Development Organization and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia.

Navy successfully test-fires Brahmos supersonic missile


India today successfully test-fired a land-attack BrahMos supersonic cruise missile today.

"Land attack version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was fired for the first time from an Indian Navy's stealth frigate, off the eastern coast, at a land target," said a source in the Ministry of Defence.

"So, far only anti-ship version of BrahMos had been fired by Indian Navy," the source added.

This puts India in a select club of nations with such capability.

The land-attack version of BrahMos has been operationalised in the Indian Army since 2007.

The BrahMos missile, with a range of 290 km and a Mach 2.8 speed, is capable of being launched from land, sea and sub-sea pads against sea and land targets.

BrahMos, jointly developed by India and Russia, is considered the only supersonic cruise missile in the world. The missile was first inducted in the India Navy in 2005.

Final trials of BrahMos in Pokhran soon

JODHPUR: BrahMos, the supersonic cruise missile, seems to be picking up speed for its final induction in the Indian Air Force (IAF). As per the highly placed official sources at BrahMos Aerospace, the Indo-Russian joint venture, the air launched version of the formidable missile shall be test-fired against a live sea-based target in second half of the May followed with a final test-fire against a live land target in Pokhran firing range in Jaisalmer by May last week or June first week. After the successful completion of these significant trials, the missile shall finally be ready for induction into the IAF .

On April 21, Indian Navy successfully undertook the maiden firing of BrahMos Land Attack Supersonic Cruise Missile from Indian Naval Ship Teg, a Guided Missile Frigate, on a target on land. Its Anti Ship variant has already been inducted into Indian Navy . Majority of the frontline ships of Indian Navy , like the Kolkata, Ranvir and Teg classes of ships, are capable of firing this missile. Land Attack variant of BrahMos Missile while enhancing the prowess of Indian Navy , provides Indian Naval Ships the capability to precisely neutralise selected targets deep inland, far away from coast, from stand-off ranges at sea.

Drop trials of this `fire and forget' missile have been carried out successfully from Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft earlier while achieving mission parameters regarding the release mechanism of launcher in addition to clearance from the aircraft in a copybook manner as per the officials.

"Further the data with respect to live sea target attack from air launched version would first be analysed paving way for the desert test fires of air launched version from the fighter aircraft against live land target in Pokaran at the most by first half of June", said an official adding that the test fires shall be conducted for a range of 300 kms at a speed of 2.8 Mach (almost three times that of sound).The release mechanism . of the launcher in addition to the clearance from the aircraft after the fire have already been evaluated paving way for the test fire of 2.5-ton BrahMos air-to-ground missile from the Sukhoi-30 aircraft. Air version of BrahMos is 500 kgs lighter than its Army and Naval versions.

Earlier on March 11 this year, an enhanced version of the BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile with an Extended Range (ER), much higher range than the current range of 290 km and a supersonic speed of 2.8 Mach was successfully test fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipurat sea in Balasore, off the coast of Odisha. This triumph empowered the Indian Armed Forces to knock down enemy targets far beyond a range of 400km as per a statement from Dr. Sudhir Mishra, CEO& MD of BrahMos Aerospace.

BrahMos lends the competence to all three wings of armed forces with its impeccable capacity to be launched from air, land, sea and sub-sea against deep, well shielded and hidden sea and land targets while evading the enemy air defence systems due to its variable trajectory.

BrahMos supersonic cruise missile's air version ready for trial

BHUBANESWAR: BrahMos Aerospace Limited is finally getting ready to conduct the maiden test of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile’s air version soon. This world class weapon system, which can surprise enemies with its manoeuvring capability, will be fired from an aircraft in June.

Defence sources said the integration of the weapon with Su-30MKI fighter aircraft is near complete. After a couple of drop tests, it will be fired against a live target.

“Sukhoi has successfully demonstrated its integration with the missile. If everything goes according to the plan, the missile will be launched from the aircraft in June. Two aircraft have been earmarked by air force for the initial trials,” said a BrahMos Aerospace official.

If test-fired successfully, BrahMos will be first weapon system in the world to have such capability. As of now, there is no such weapon available in the world which can be fired from land, sea and air platforms. The Navy had recently conducted a test of the missile’s land attack variant after its range was extended from 290 km to 450 km following India’s membership in the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR).

Jointly developed by India and Russia, the 8.4-meter BrahMos missile, fastest in the world, can carry warheads up to 300 kg. Having devastating power at a supersonic speed of Mach 2.8, it is capable of delivering warhead with high-precision.

Defence sources said the BrahMos Aerospace has reduced the weight of the air version of the missile as it will be launched from a moving platform unlike its land and sea versions. Some modifications have also been made in its design to easily integrate with Sukhoi aircraft.

“Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has also made some structural changes to Sukhoi for the finest integration of the missile. The design changes have been validated through various tests including most important ground vibration test,” the official added.

Equipped with an inertial navigation system and global positioning system, the missile can effectively engage ground targets from an altitude as low as 10 meters for surgical strikes at terror training camps across the border without causing collateral damage.

BrahMos is the only supersonic cruise missile-possessing this advanced capability in the world providing an edge to the user with a precise hit. The Army and Navy have already inducted the missile system.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — It is anticipated that approximately 20 trials will be made before BrahMos missiles are ready for introduction into the Indian Air Force (IAF). The IAF is expected to equip 42 Su-30 MKIs with the 2016 Brahmos missile.

Defense sources said the integration of the Brahmos with the Su-30MKI is almost complete. “Integration of the missile with the fighter jet is near completion. We have planned to test fire the missile from an aircraft in June,” said official.

Indian scientists have tested the land version of the BrahMos missile in April when it hit the target at a distance of approximately 450 kilometers (around 280 miles) in the Bay of Bengal. Apart from design modifications, the missile’s weight has also been reduced by the manufacturer to integrate with the Su-30 MKI.

BrahMos Aerospace has been engaged with seven countries in Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East for selling Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets armed with BrahMos cruise missiles.

“We have requests from seven countries in Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East, which already have Su-30s. They keep a close eye on the ongoing trials and once we are through, we are going to have many new buyers,” Praveen Pathak, Additional GM, BrahMos Aerospace, had told Sputnik earlier.

The Indian Navy is equipping all its ships with the BrahMos missile. A hypersonic version of the BrahMos cruise missile, capable of flying at up to 5,000 kmph (around 3,100 mph), is expected to be created by 2020.

The BrahMos missile is a product of BrahMos Aerospace, which is a joint venture of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and the NPO Mashinostroyenia of Russia. The company was established in India in 1998 through an inter-governmental agreement between India and Russia. India holds 50.5 percent stake in the company and the rest lies with Russia. The name BrahMos is a confluence of the names of the rivers the Brahmaputra and the Moskva, respectively.

Edit : Its the extended range Block III version not the short range Block III..So this just confirms all the Short range Brahmos can be easily now updated for Long range version

We know length of Brahmos is 28feet..

Dimensions based on the mushroom in the last pic...

Base of the mushroom is atleast 90-100 feet.

Height of fireball is atleast 200 feet.

Width of the fireball is atleast 250 feet..

Wow... That's quite a big bang..
