Missiles like Nirbhay will carry nukes. A 300Km Brahmos has limited range. I don't think we need tactical nukes like Pak does.

Actually this was not it. I was thinking that we need special aircrafts to deliver nukes. If Brahmos could carry nukes, the air launched version of Brahmos could have been used to deliver nukes even using a normal Sukhoi. Would improve effectiveness of our nuclear deterrent as well as save us some money.

For that, we need to wait for Brahmos tests on MKIs to be successful.

Indian navy successfully test-fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

PANAJI: The Navy today successfully test-fired the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, capable of carrying a conventional warhead of 300 kg, from a warship off the Goa coast.

"The cruise missile was test-fired from guided missile frigate INS Teg--the Indian Navy's latest induction from Russia off the coast of Goa early morning," sources told .

They said the missile performing high-level manoeuvres successfully hit the target ship which was still on fire.

The INS Teg, which has been built at the Yantar shipyard in Russia, had fired the missile successfully during pre-induction trials in Russia last year.

The two remaining warships of the project namely INS Tarkah and INS Trikand will also be armed with the lethal missile in vertical launch mode.

The two-stage missile, the first one being solid and the second one ramjet liquid propellant, has already been inducted into the Army and Navy, and the Air Force version is in final stage of trial, a defence official said.

While induction of the first version of Brahmos missile system in the Indian Navy commenced from 2005 with INS Rajput, it is now fully operational with two regiments of the Army.

The air launch version and the submarine launch version of the missile system are in progress, he said.

The Army has so far placed orders for the Brahmos missile to be deployed by three regiments of the Army and two of them have already been inducted operationally.

The Defence Ministry has also given a go-ahead to Army to induct a third regiment equipped with the missile system to be deployed in Arunachal Pradesh.

Brahmos Aerospace, an Indo-Russian joint venture company, is also working to develop the air as well as the submarine launch version of the missile system and work on the project is in progress

This was the user trial i guess to validate the new systems on INS Teg and that to of the Anti Ship version of Brahmos. The missile that failed was the land attack version and you definitely cannot relate two different systems. IIRC, that mission failed because they were testing some indigenous components.

    B]Navy successfully test-fires Brahmos missile off Goa[/B]

    PANAJI, OCT 7:
Enhancing lethality of its fire power, the Navy today successfully test-fired a highly- manoeuvrable version of the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a warship off the Goa coast.

“The cruise missile was test-fired from guided missile frigate INS Teg—the Indian Navy’s latest induction from Russia off the coast of Goa early this morning,” sources told PTI.

The missile, which was fired without a warhead, hit the target ship after performing intricate manoeuvres, they said.

It had a deep penetration on the target, which caught fire, they said.

The weapon did not take a straight attack path and kept turning around before hitting the target and this capability will make it difficult for the enemy to locate the Indian warships during operations, the sources said.

INS Teg, which has been built at the Yantar shipyard in Russia, had fired the missile successfully during its pre-induction trials in Russia last year.

The two remaining warships of the project namely INS Tarkash and INS Trikand will also be armed with the cruise missile in vertical launch mode.

The successful test of the missile from the new Talwar Class frigate under project ‘Project 1135.6’ has strengthened BrahMos’ case for deployment on the similar warships being built for Russian Navy.

The two—stage missile, the first one being solid and the second one ramjet liquid propellant, has already been inducted into the Army and Navy, and the Air Force version is in final stage of trial, a defence official said.

While induction of the first version of Brahmos missile system in the Indian Navy commenced from 2005 with INS Rajput, it is now fully operational with two regiments of the Army.

Not just the Brahmos-A but also Brahmos-S and Brahmos-2 hypersonic. Did the brahmos always have that Shaurya type cap on top? More importantly can shaurya be used in LR-AShM mode?

If it can be used in this role it would be our DF-21.

Nope DF-21 is a BM it flies very high and can be easily intercepted by SM-3/SM-6. Shaurya flies at 40 km and comes in at Mach 7.5. Nearly impossible to intercept.

China also calls a floating table an commisioned aircraft carrier and Type-52 garbage as AEGIS equivalent. Neither is fooling anyone.
