With India having declared the opening of a new artillery procurement process valued at some US$1.5 billion the Bofors subsidiary SWS Defence has now decided to withdraw from the tender process.

The procurement of 400 field howitzers started in 2002. Bofors has been regarded to have the best product, Dagens Industri writes. However the deal has been delayed and now the technical demands has been lowered which has lead Bofors to believe in a lessened chance of winning the order.
