Guwahati : Barely a few hours ahead of the scheduled visit of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to Assam, a blast rocked the state's Tinsukia district late on Friday night, killing one person.

Police said the blast took place at Philobari in Tinsukia district, over 500 km away from Guwahati.

Police said that the bomb was planted in front of the house of a Congress leader and that it killed one person on the spot. The deceased was however, yet to be identified, police said.

Gandhi was scheduled to arrive in Assam's main city Guwahati Saturday morning to attend the official function of the first anniversary of the third successive term of Congress government in the state.

Cheap warning from ULFA. Nobody takes notice nowadays.

But, every now and then someone has to die for the Central Govt to remember that issues remain unsolved, even after decades. Pathetic condition fuelled by inactive actions by the GoI to settle the issue.

In any case, Assam is much better than what it was 10 years ago.

Such cases need dedicated police work and upgradation of local policing infrastructure.

There is complex political, economical and social environment in North East. Politically it is difficult to predict who is supporting whom. Both Central and state government used the militants for there political gain, then problem among different ethnic groups supported by governments and militants together, complete destruction of demography due to large scale influx from Bangladesh after 71,complete negligence of North East by national media are some of the reason. Rather than the four oil refineries in Assam, there is hardly any major industry in whole North East. Th Bogibeel bridge over Brahmaputra will may take another 10 years to complete after work starts 10 years ago.
Government is happy keeping North East as it is. Keep fighting and killing each other.
