JAMMU: The BJP today appealed to the Centre and state government to intervene to stop the killings in Gilgit-Baltistan.

"The party has been closely watching the developments in Gilgit Baltistan and appeals to the Government of India and state government to intervene to stop bloodshed and killings in Gilgit Baltistan," J&K state BJP chief Shamsher Singh Manhas told media today.

He said the party will launch a country-wide campaign to make people aware of the state government and the UPA government's apethatic attitude towards people of Gilgit Baltistan.

"We will launch a country-wide campaign to make people aware of the apathy of Central and state governments," Manhas said.

He said the party extends its support to the people of Kargil, particularly the members of Anjuman-e-Jamiyatul Ulima Asna Ashriya (Kargil) in their peaceful agitation against bloodshed and killings in Gilgit Baltistan.

Manhas also announced party's decision to depute State General Secretary and Incharge Ladakh, Satish Sharma, to contact the local leadership in Kargil and device a plan to extend every possible co-operation to the people of Gilgit Baltistan.

Shia-dominated Kargil border town in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday observed a complete bandh in protest against the recent sectarian violence in Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan.

Hope at least now we grow some courage to support them rather than running away as we did during SL massacre as calling it their internal affairs and it's their people

This should happen soon, average Indian is not aware of GB, Aksai Chin & POK. There should be nation wide campaign asking present government to do something about GB, Aksai Chin & POK. This will not only put pressure on GOI but create awareness among our younger generation. Every Indian should aspire to integrate GB, Aksai Chin & POK with India.

Even if the govt cannot do anything, demonstrations will publicise the issue and maybe it will get reported internationally and some effect can take place.

The Govt can always claim that it can do nothing officially to stop the demonstration, India being a democracy!

BJP has my vote if it makes positive statements on GB and show its a "nationalist" part and not a pretend.

They most of times do.But media represents em differently.
Btw, I wasn't aware about such acts in GB.It would be great if govt. listens and tries to be apolitical in this particular matter.

So am I supposed to assume that had BJP been in power, they would have, without much ado, intervened into Gilgit-Baltistan?

Sad truth is BJP talks a lot but doesn't deliver when it is power. Be it Bofors, Ram mandir or getting back POK. They won the election on these issues but did not deliver. But I would still vote for BJP because under them the GDP grows while under Congress it is inflation.
