Bareilly communal violence kills one, curfew on

Lucknow: At least one person was killed and several injured when communal violence broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district late Sunday, police said on Monday.

Trouble erupted when some Muslims objected to music played by the Kanwariyas or the Shiv devotees who were returning from Haridwar, a police source said.

Outraged, the Kanwariyas resorted to violence, vandalized shops and public property and set on fire many vehicles in the Jogi Navada locality, a police officer said. One person was killed in the firing in Math Chowki area.

According to police, at least two dozen people were injured in the violence that broke out in many parts of the city and continued past midnight.

Hundreds of people emerged from their houses in Shahdana. A police team was attacked in Azamnagar. Many policemen, including the superintendent of police (SP), were injured in the stone pelting.

Police lobbed tear gas shells at the rioting mobs but could not contain the violence.

Curfew imposed in Bareilly after rival groups clash

    Jul 23, 8:45 AM

In Uttar Pradesh, curfew has been imposed in Bareilly city after violent clashes between two rival groups. It was effective in all seven police areas, including Kotwali, Premnagar, Baradari, Quila, Cant, Ijjatnagar and Subhashnagar of the city.

AIR Allahabad correspondent reports that trouble started on Sunday night when two rival groups indulged in firing and arson following scuffle over using loud speakers in the procession. Several persons, including policemen, were injured in the clashes.

A large police force has been deployed to maintain peace in the town. The state Additional Director General of Police has reached Bareilly to take first-hand stock of the situation.

This is blatant hypocrisy - objecting to the usage of loudspeakers.

This happens like every year in Bareilly.

Btw, it were the Kaawariyas who set the Mandi ablaze.

These Kanwars can be a bi nuisance to the general public, but if left alone there is no problem. The District a administration should have been geared up .
During this time the Meerut Delhi highway is closed to ovehicular traffic to avoid any problem, ,and in Delhi they are given separate tracks to walk on so that they do not interfere with the traffic.

No politics or communal situation to be read into this.

All loudspeakers should be banned in all religious gatherings and buildings.

The Muslims were completely justified at being annoyed by the loudspeakers as much as it would annoy me if I was roused early in the morning by the loudspeakers from the mosques.

Ban all religious noise and restrict it to those few days when there is some festival.

If you are not the police, paramilitary, military, ambulance, or fire-brigade, then you should not use any kind of loudspeaker beyond a certain decibel limit, to be set by law.

Thats why I said they were being hypocrites !

BTW it astounds me how little is needed to bring the underlying tensions to the fore.

Why to object loudspeakers when Muslims are themselves proclaiming 5 times a day on loudspeakers that there is no God except Allah everywhere ?

Is the bold part sarcasm on Mullahs ?

If not then it's not justified, I daily hear Mosque loudspeaker and sometimes I get annoyed but I do not object someone's faith and their ways to pray and worship. And so I also expect from them to bear the loudspeaker sounds of my religious acts and respect my religion.

I am stating that India faces a break up. Some seculars on here disagree. But who cares what they think. They will soon be minorities within the majority.

Banning all religious loudspeakers - yes; only azaan - no. Did Bal Thackeray ask for ban on all religious loudspeakers?
