Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Monday criticised Sachin Tendulkar for his ''Mumbai for all'' remark, saying there was no need for the cricket icon to take a ''cheeky single'' and hurting the Marathi psyche by moving to the pitch of politics.

"There was no need for him to take a cheeky single by making such remarks," Sena mouthpiece 'Sammana' quoted Thackeray as saying.

"By making these remarks, you have got run-out on the pitch of Marathi psyche. You were not even born when the 'Marathi Manoos' got Mumbai and 105 Marathi people sacrificed their lives to get Mumbai," he said.

"Mumbai belongs to India. That is how I look at it. And I am a Maharashtrian and I am extremely proud of that but I am an Indian first," said Tendulkar.

Shiv Sena and MNS have often played the "Marathi Manoos" card in a bid to attract votes. Raj Thackeray's fledgling party had even unleashed an anti-north Indian campaign inviting criticism.

How exactly do SS and MNS don't qualify as anti-national and separatist? Since they even use force, how are they not a terrorist organisation? How exactly do they qualify as political parties, especially when their means are unconstitutional and unlawful?

The great Indian pseudo-democracy. Where the Rupee is stronger than the state.

I think this misktake will be very costly for balasaheb......no doubt he has lost his mind....too old he is now ...There is phrase in Bengali " Marankale buddhinash" (lossing saneness when end is approaching)...holds good for Thakrey and Co.

People dont bother about what Bal Thackerey has to say. They didnt even vote for him and he got wild at them for not doing so. So let him just shut up. Yes Mumbai is for all India and its not the private property of neither the Shiv Sena nor the Marathi people.

In every similar movement, the driving parties look after their vested interests. Ideology is always a tool, not a purpose. Although they'll try hard to make it look otherwise. In this case, MNS and SS are fueled by Maharashtrian builders who want to drive their northie competitors out. The exit of non-Marathi people and labour wouldn't affect them, as there are always Marathi people to take their places (as a market base, not as replacement).

Mumbai will crumble without non-Marathi people. The Bihari milkman who wakes up at 4:00 am, the Taxi driver from UP who ferries people even at 1:00 am, efficient businessmen from Gujarat, office-goers from the South, etc.,etc. They will then have sold real-estate which would become worthless, and then they'll open up to outsiders by silencing such movements. Once things are buzzing again, and there's a new market for real-estate created, it's return to dirty politics. A vicious cycle.

There's a somewhat similar movement here, for a separate Telangana state. They're not popular, since everyone and their mothers know that Telangana is going to end up like Kodaland (Jharkhand) or Uttarakhand. What TRS (the group leading the movement) really wants is to peacefully mine Telangana without competition from the more efficient Andhra people.

Well, if they care so much about Marathi Manoos - why do they let the filmstars stay there? Amitabh Bachhan, Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, etc and 99% of the popular actors are not marathis. Why do they let Ambanis stay there, they are not marathi.

The Congress is really playing a dirty and dangerous game by letting these goons grow, for the sake of political mileage in the state.

It saddens me that these kind of people are flourishing in India, while we advertise "India Shining". Shameful and Pitiful.

    being sarcastic with mr thackeray

I Completely support the marathi manoos platform and i hope that mr thackeray shall stop even a dime from outside maharastra from flowing into mumbai(therby increasing investment in the rest of india), lets have maharstrian electricity, water and money only, especially the shiv sena shall not take a dime from central coffers as it is money from outside maharashtra and companies with their main production bases outside maharastra shall be asked to moveoutside maharstra (tata, reliance and birla to name a few). air india planes flying without maharstrian pilots shall not be allowed to land in mumbai and trains without maharastrian engineers cannot come to maharstra.

Manoj Tiwari's residence attacked in Mumbai

Yes its going to take rocket science to find out who was behind the attack. Anything called law and order? Wonder what would happen to Mumbai and Maharashtra if the SS/MNS came to power with a majority on their own?

And the goons who have attacked the poor actor dont know the difference between Manoj Tiwari, the congress spokesperson and AICC member who made the comments and an actor. Blind bloody stooges.

'Tiger' made a tactical mistake, infact, a blunder by going after 'the little master'. Sachin enjoys respecability that is unmatched by any politician today, they should be careful when venturing against such individuals. Going after bollywoodwallas is one thing but going after the batting genius was a big mistake. Sachin is India's icon.

Having said this, the media put Sachin in a bit of a spot by asking his opinion. Sachin said what any national sportsman and national icon would have said. He simply said that he is proud of his regional and linguistic identity but obviously the country comes first. This is a reply that any national level sportsman, businessman, leader......etc would give and its natural as well. Bal Tackrey should have taken it in his stride and not vented out his anger against the icon.
