LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Hanif Mohammad believes the team’s Australian coach Dav Whatmore needs to learn Urdu if he is to succeed with the players.

Whatmore has come under fire after Pakistan suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the test series in South Africa, failing to take any of the matches into the fifth day.

“I don’t want to lay entire blame on him but he needs to learn our common language Urdu if he wants to communicate properly with the players,” Hanif said.

“It is important that a coach is able to convey his sentiments, feelings, advice, commands properly to the players. They must be able to understand and feel what their coach is saying,” added the 78-year-old.

“I don’t think this is happening in the team because how many of our players can communicate or speak English fluently?”

Hanif, who played 55 tests, felt a coach would never be able to convey his feelings or advice to a player through an interpreter or in a language not common to both.

“People don’t realise how important a part of the coach’s job is communicating properly with his players, who are then responsible for adapting and executing what they are told,” he added.

South Africa was Pakistan’s second straight test series defeat since Whatmore took over as coach in March last year.

They were also beaten in Sri Lanka.

Though I find Urdu a very nice and pleasant sounding language, Hanif is a fool to insist on foreigners learning the same!

But then who knows, he might be right.

Pakistanis don't know English and what they think they know is not English!

The Coach would learn Urdu and communicate but how will the Pakis interact and survivive the multi cultural world outside Pakistan.
Are they going to ask all of the Cricketing world's Umpires, Ground Staff, Board officials, other teams players .. everyone to learn Urdu because they can't learn a link language on their own?

Pakis beating the wrong bush... Cricket is a international game and Pakis need to learn English properly and not the Coach who needs to learn Urdu.Sri Lanka and Bangladesh never complained or asked the Whatmore to learn but here Pakis are... the drama queens.Recruit a Talibunny better  btw why do Pakis making Whatmore as the "Bali Ka Bakra" if Pakis got Whitewashed 3-0 by Africans??? After all they did actual "Bali of a Bakra"... seems like Allah the great didnt like the Goat sacrifice. :pound:

When are Pakis going to accept their mistakes and accept defeat like a man??? Pakis always looking for excuses for its defeats. In this case its the mistake and inability of Paki players and not the Coach or Goat.

It seems Pakistan is creating new records in Idiotic rants.....Next they will make Whatmore adopt Sunni Islam....so that Sunni Pak will do well with not so sunni coach.....

Or Lashkar-e-Jhangvi will bomb Australia into smithereens
