Eating beef and slaughtering cow two different things, I mean later taboo is bigger than former taboo.

Anyhow slaughtering cow is not mandatory in Islam.

Duh,!! These guys usually come up with all kinds of Fatwas. Thank God no one said cow slaughter is "wajib" or something. Actually I have never seen anyone slaughter cows or buffaloes. Only goats is what I have seen. Camels are sacrificed in Arab world that I know. So even if this wise guy hadnt asked to not slaughter cows I think no one would have anyways. I only appreciate the fact that he didn't say anything that would actually up passions.

Personally, I find the mass slaughter of any kind of animal for some religious festival to be barbaric.

Even Hindus performed mass animal sacrifice before the Buddhist era.

Basic idea is to give food to the poor. Since the deserts of the arabia weren't rich in agriculture so meat was used as the food that would be distributed.

Logically i think the reason why jews, christians and muslims bury is also cultural rather than religious because again the deserts of the middle east wasn't rich in trees so using wood to burn bodies would have been stupid.

Disagree, I haven't seen mention of anything of this sort in pre-Islamic times. It seems purely religious and ritualistic than cultural

    Agree

Of course that part is religious. What im saying is that since agriculture was not there in arabia so animals were killed and there meat distributed to poor. Not everyone was growing stuff but most had access to camels, goats etc.

Well first of all, people rarely slaughter cows it doesn't make economic sense.

It however makes sense slaughtering bulls, and male calves as they are an economic burden and many dairy farmers, cattle hereders do get "rid off" of the males.

    They need not celebrate Id!

Actually, the Muslims slaughter huge goats, yes, real huge goats that are specially reared for Id.

Appreciate the move. These kinds of moves will further increase national harmony and unity. Wonderful method! Our country has so many different varieties of cattle and fowl; I think scrapping off one to respect the majority shouldn't be a problem.
