"Not only should justice be done, but people should see that justice is being done."

It's about time to bring out the public firing squads, make quick disposal of cases, and get rid of this "rarest of the rare" clause.

yesterday saw the episode of crime patrol where a teenager was gangraped by 19 people including bystanders and felt very disgusted about indian public, males, police , law, judge, mentality everyone.
However this case is getting media headlines like delhi rape case or goa molestation case. Why because its in assam where the logistical and accesibility problem is so much that its affordable by media as reported by rajdeep sardesai .

    Meanwhile 1997 maneesha rape case

    Sad incident indeed,
We live in a dysfunctional society,
Assam & the NE states were always considered more civilized as far as respect towards women & their rights are concerned.
Never seen such simple ,hardworking womenfolk across the country.
During Long Range Patrols (LRP's) in Arunanchal Pradesh they carried double loads( rations etc), on their back to get that extra count towards enhanced monetary compensation. Tougher than many, yet smiling in adversity.
Catch the culprits, chemically castrate them & give them the death penalty.

Chemical castration is not the right kind of punishment for such a horrendous crime; To set an example, those bastards needs to be castrated in front of public like how bulls are castrated, post castration, they must not be left to die instead, they would have to be subjected for at least 3 years with extreme physical and mental tortures and finally when they go mad, they need to hanged till death.

The perpetrators sure would be lucky if police catch them before the people. We have had chain snatchers, that too of influential families being lynched in the past when caught by the public. This time it could get far worse. People are seething with anger. Make no mistake on that.

But I'll sound a warning of caution here, and this is not my view but that of the majority. If, and its a big if, the perpetrators are found to be from outside Assam, and especially from the hindi speaking belt, expect some form of retaliation, either by the locals, or the militant organizations. People here do not like them too much, and this is my honest statement.

If that happens, wouldn't that be the punishment which they deserve the best ?

There is a lot of 'criticism' of the media for highlighting these type of cases.

Actually, the truth is that because the media has taken on an activist role, that these horrors are being brought before the people to realise that we are living in a cocoon of well being, when around us there is horrid activities going on with impunity.

Not only these rapes by the lower strata of society that is shocking, the rapes by the higher strata of society that were never reported because of the 'old boys club' attitude is being revealed these days by the media.

It is time our conscience is jiggled so hard that we take the bull by the horn and protest till we are blue in the face and the Police and Judiciary take cognisance and bring the culprits to book!

lack of implementation of laws effectively prompted this type of heinous crime..

Delhi rape case suppose to set an example of fast track judgement but instead nothing can be seen as fast in it

Not true. At times, brutal and visible retaliation is the best means to secure compliance from the future perpetrators. If the delhi gang rape perpetrators were killed by firing squad in the middle of Delhi, I'm sure the message would have reached the right lobe of the brain.

Just jailing them for 7-14 years wont be enough to dissuade them from raping someone. The fear that they would dragged to the streets and killed with exclusive brutality most certainly will.

I think if there is a report of a rape. then immediately the culprits should be taken into custody and held.

Fast track courts and punished if proved guilty and with long terms in jail.

Assaulting a police officer is a cognisable offence.

The men in the photo should be immediately arrested and held and interrogated so that the others too can be identified and jailed.

Respect for the police is essential if law and order is to be maintained.
