In all likelyhood the Aryans were nothing more than small catalytic migrants, they became elite class for a short time after chaos that was in India due to collapse of Harappans and set up the basic framework kingdoms but the Sanskritized Harappan priestly class thereafter took over power structure and replaced them given the mass support they enjoyed. The stories of Parshurama ( a name most likely of harappan origin) defeating 23 Kshatriya tribes and Bharata giving up his kingdom to his brahmin priests son all point to a steady transfer of power from core Aryan class to harappan priestly class (aka brahmins) much like British transferred power to a English speaking Indian political class. This may imply that brahmin origins predate vedas and was there in IVC itself and our class/caste system may be of Harappan rather than Aryan origin. It could also imply high degree of continuity in culture of Indians from Harappan to Vedic period.
