Army Chief to visit Israel next month.
BY DANFES, AGENCY

New Delhi,Army Chief General V K Singh is scheduled to travel to Israel for a three-day visit next month when he will review the joint military programmes and seek to further enhance bilateral defence ties.

Gen Singh is scheduled to visit Israel from March 16 to 18 when he will hold talks with the top military and political leadership, Army sources told PTI here.

The Army Chief is also expected to discuss with his Israeli counterpart the future joint development of defence programmes.

Gen Singh is currently on a four-day visit to Britain from where he will return on February 20.

Three years ago, Gen Deepak Kapoor had also visited Israel.

Defence cooperation between India and Israel has been burgeoning since diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Tel Aviv were established in 1992.

The ties have become stronger in the recent times with India emerging as the largest purchaser of Israeli defence hardware since the beginning of the 21st Century.

India has inducted from Israel the PHALCON Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems that would be fitted to Indian Air Force's three IL-76 heavy lift transport aircraft.

That apart, India has brought the Green Pine radars that warn of incoming enemy ballistic missiles.

Indian Armed Forces are also users of Israeli unmanned aerial vehicles for intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance purposes.

Why should he resign

The SC HAS NOT held him guilty in any way

IT has only cited technicalities and legalities of the whole mess

Even the GOI gave an undertaking in court that they have full confidence in him

And recently DM Antony that Army chief must forget all the past and continue to serve the country
as he has been doing

So what more certificate does the Chief need ?

Secondly he has earned this job by his hard work he was NOT favoured by the GOI

The only people who have to quit and resign are those who have been shamed in any manner

check your lang you are talking about Indian army chief on Indian defence forum
An Indian has every right to express an opinion either way. No one is a holy cow. It is his opinion, and he is entitled to it.

It is the misfortune of the Army chief that everyone will remember the "age row" whenever they see his name. It cannot be helped now.

He is on 4 day Uk visit. I suspect him that he is arranging UK citizenship in lieu of revealing secrets..

Come on dude - let us not indulge in baseless conspiracy theories. Don't insinuate such things about the poor man without any basis. :tsk:

There is nothing wrong in my language.
The term "lame duck" refers to an official who's position is weak, has reached the end of his or her tenure and whose successor has been choosen. This is apt for the position in which the COAS is, at the moment.

So what is wrong in my language?.

Please don't see ghosts where none exist.

Why should he resign

The SC HAS NOT held him guilty in any way
Not held him guilty, but actually threatened him to withdraw his plea or they would pass a judgement.
He was forced to accept 1950 as his DOB for service matters.

He lost the stand that he had taken, and was humiliated by the AG. He should hold his head high and tell the AG and GOI to that we will stick to his guns and make place for the next COAS.
IT has only cited technicalities and legalities of the whole mess
They were following GOI's order.
Even the GOI gave an undertaking in court that they have full confidence in him
To reduce the humiliation to the COAS. The Def Minister and COAS don't get along.
And recently DM Antony that Army chief must forget all the past and continue to serve the country
as he has been doing
He is just being magnanimous to the defeated general.

So what more certificate does the Chief need ?
The COAS took a stand based on matters of integrity - has it been vindicated? No.

Secondly he has earned this job by his hard work he was NOT favoured by the GOI
There is no denying that fact.

The only people who have to quit and resign are those who have been shamed in any manner
So has'nt the COAS been shamed?....... the SC refused to consider his plea and told him to follow the GOI's stand on the issue.

The rank and file in the IA is seeing that their Chief has been humiliated by the bureaucracy and the GOI. A very sad phase in the history of our nation.

Do you protest when people use the word "lame duck" for Sonia or Rahul or Advani or Deve Gowda or Chief Justice or home secretary? Why getting so pricked here?

And firstly, "lame duck" is not an abusive term. Don't go around being extra sensitive.

It isn't lame what he did, Despite he knew about the possible outcome..

Army chief General VK Singh denied permission to travel to Israel

New Delhi, Feb 28: After Army Chief General VK Singh's debacle in the court over age row, the Union Defence Ministry has now denied permission for his Israel tour. He was scheduled to visit the country from March 16 to 18.

The reason behind the denial by the ministry was referred as "critical situation prevailing in the Middle-East."

After the court took the government's side, the Army chief had withdrawn the petition for changing the date of birth to 1951 from 1950.

Meanwhile, Gen Singh is due to step down on May 31, 2012.

This implicates two things

1) Either Israel can attack Iran anytime

2) GOI does not want him to go to Israel to know more about deals and secrets

It seems they are just pissed off that India is not doing enough to discredit Iran.

Or perhaps some other reason that we are not privy to. Can't jump to conclusions here but it is disappointing.

Indian army chief to visit Israel despite cancellation

visit tom Israel....

Defense officials believe Gen. VK Singh will visit at future date after scheduled arrival canceled in wake of Iran tension.

India's military chief is expected to visit Israel despite a decision by the Indian government to cancel his trip this month, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

The Indian Daily News and Analysis (DNA) news website said Thursday that Gen. V.K. Singh was scheduled to arrive in Israel between March 16 and 18 to discuss the growing defense cooperation between the two countries, but that the visit was canceled due to soaring tensions with Iran.

Nevertheless, defense officials in Israel believe the visit will still go ahead on a future date.

In explaining this month's cancellation, DNA quoted an Indian Defense Ministry official as saying, "The situation in Israel is not favorable for the general's visit with war clouds gathering over Iran, especially after the recent attacks on Israeli diplomats in foreign countries, including in India."

"During this period, [the] army chief's official visit to Israel could send wrong signals to Iran. And it might create unnecessary misunderstanding," the reported continued.

But India's Defense Minister M.M. Pallam Raju cited a different reason for the cancellation, saying "instability in Syria" was the cause, according to the report.

India is the second largest importer of Iranian oil (after China), with 300,000 barrels arriving every day. The US is applying heavy pressure on India to reduce its dependency on Iranian oil, so far to no effect.

At the same time, New Delhi and Jerusalem moved closer over the past decade, and Israel has become the second largest exporter of defense products to India, after Russia.

More than $10 billion in defense contracts have been signed between Israel and India since 1999, DNA said.
