Why the delay in opening Amma cinema theaters in Chennai? CHENNAI: Chennaiites will have to wait for a few more months for the launch of Amma cinema theaters, announced by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy during the Corporation budget in February, as the civic body is still looking for suitable halls and other buildings which could be converted into cinema halls. "It will take another month to finalise buildings, and once that's done, the theatres will be open to the public soon," said a civic body official who didn't want to be identified. The corporation is looking to convert the existing auditoriums and unused corporation buildings that will best fit the bill to screen movies with subsidized tickets. A ticket at an Amma theater will be priced below Rs 25. "Most cinema theatres operate in commercial complexes, so ticket prices are too high. Cinema helps migrant labourers get over their depression," said the budget statement of the corporation.
