Airtel is throttling torrent downloads to just 30-40Kb between 10 Am and 10 Pm.
How about enabling protocol encryption? Also disable "allow incoming legacy connections"
But seriously broadband in India is f*cked up ! I hate that bloody 'Fair Usage' policy
Check out if you have used up your download limit.
LB, fair usage policy is there almost everywhere. I use Reliance, no fair usage policy
I was able to talk my way out of a FUP , I am on a 1.8k incl of all taxes plan with guaranteed 2Mbps speed. BUT this throttling thing is criminal. Now I will to setup a VPN like Ipredator which means another extra 300 bucks down the drain every quarter. MY dads gonna be shocked when he learns of my internet bill.....
Get Reliance. No fair usage policy and speed's the same all the time.
Broadband scene in India has been a mess for sometime now.
Net connections often come with ridiculous fair usage policies, and unlike the cell phone market, there seems to be no competition between major telecom companies.
My torrents aren't throttled. I am getting the 256KBps download speeds on all good torrents. I have a 2Mbps connection.
Whenever they introduce new schemes they'll give everything free.. Later on they'll pull back the Fair usage policy... They're pretty tricky in increasing users...
IIRC you are on a 256kbps plan with a special offer of 2Mbps speed for 1st 20gb montly.
I think after NCR, it'll be Blore's turn...
I am thinking of shifting to MTNL, its a hassle but it'll cost me half for 1MBps with no FUP.
I agree with you.
However, it is almost a year that I have an 1 mbps connection, and I get 120kbps+ all the time.
what you guys are downloading ???
form the looks of it, Singh is most concern about this collection.
I am using Airtel 256 kbps connection (which automatically upgraded to 512 kbps three months ago, how i don't know) now with special offer i got it upgraded to 1 mbps, right now i am downloading Ultimate Edition .iso through torrent and i am getting 110-130 kbytesps, so there is no such torrent speed down problem i guess !!
Im on mtnl unlimited 2mbps plan without any fup or any of that nonsense.
Yeah. The same.
Also, my download rates are way higher than the 20GB monthly. Airtel does not consider Torrent downloads for it's FUP. My speed has never been throttled.
Are you sure you aren't just downloading bad torrents?
My BSNL Broadband is really stable, I get what I deserve in 512 kbps connection speed , 512/8 = 64 Kilo bytes per second download, and unlimited with monthly Rs. 700/- , downloaded Linux Mint torrent.
You are lucky it is not all day. My torrents in China get throttled every time. It takes almost a week to download a movie.
Same people were asking for privatization of BSNL. Now be happy with crony and greedy privates.
What plan it is? Evdo?
