India looks to deliver a rich 4G experience

India heads for 4G evolution by 2012 | News | IT PRO India
    .
With 3G emerging as the next
    generation of mobile systems,
India gets ready to embrace the
    4G evolution, technology
    professionals said at the LTE
    India 2011 international
    conference organized by Bharat
    Exhibitions.
    LTE (Long Term Evolution)or 4G
would be the next big step
    towards a broadband wireless
revolution by using core set up
    of the 2G/3G networks. This
    dramatically matured transition
    aims to deliver a unique
    consumer experience as the
world forays into the 4G territory
    with about 380 million LTE
    subscribers and 80 plus LTE
    networks by 2015.
    The LTE specification provides
downlink peak rates of at least
100 Mbps, an uplink of at least
    50 Mbps and RAN round-trip
times of less than 10 ms. LTE
    supports scalable carrier
bandwidths, from 1.4 MHz to 20
    MHz and supports both
    frequency division duplexing
    (FDD) and time division
    duplexing (TDD).
    The main advantages with LTE
    are high throughput, low
latency, plug and play, FDD and
TDD in the same platform, an
    improved end-user experience
    and a simple architecture
    resulting in low operating costs.
    LTE will also support seamless
passing to cell towers with older
    network technology such as
    GSM, cdmaOne, UMTS, and
    CDMA2000.
    Worldwide trials for the 100
    Megabits per second LTE service
    had already started taking shape
in 2010. In India, Qualcomm and
Huawei had set up a trial
    network in Hyderabad. But
    hopefully, the technology would
    support only four or five
    operators provided they have a
    pan India reach.
    Already with globally 18
    launches with 208 network
    commitments, the LTE evolution
    will change the way people
    connect to communicate.
    Industry leaders suggested India
could not afford to miss the
    universal broadband overage
and auction was not the best
    way for the national imperative
    move forward.
    But the widely acclaimed auction
route may shift a vast amount of
    resources from the private sector
    to the government sector.
    Telecom broadband networks
    need to pool in sufficient
    resources and focus on greater
    active infrastructure sharing to
    restore the balance of dynamism
    in the spread of mobile
    broadband services.
LTE may emerge as a strong and
    well-defined data interface that
    promises a new reality by
    extending the support of local
    language services for the Indian
    consumers.

First let them give good connections on wired broadband, then we can talk about LTE, 4G and so on.

Wired broadband takes time , getting the investment to lay that much optic cable is an expensive and long term process it wont.
At least in India they are not fighting over , whether they should do it or not like in Australia.

only Americans enjoy true unlimited internet today , many countries even developed ones are still pedaling unlimited under down throttled connections.

It should not be long before ISP's have enough subscribers to offer large volume plans.

"The LTE specification provides downlink peak rates of at least 100 Mbps"

Anyone else spot the oxymoron here?

And btw, LTE is not 4G. It used to be 4G until recently when 3G+ became 4G, so 4G will probably become 5G. In any case, India is not the right market for LTE.

As per the budget there was to have been an auction for 4G akin to the 3G auction. What has happened to this, any idea please.

INDIA - Bharti Airtel launches country’s first 4G service

Bharti Airtel launches country’s first 4G service

New Delhi: Bharti Airtel on Tuesday announced the launch of the country’s first ever fourth generation mobile services in Kolkata and claimed that it will result in India becoming one of the first countries in the world to commercially deploy the cutting-edge technology.

Airtel's 4G (TD-LTE) network was launched by telecoms minister Kapil Sibal.

Currently, Airtel’s 4G pricing in Kolkata starts at Rs 999 with a usage of 6GB. Wi-fi devices (indoor CPE) are priced at Rs 7,750 while 4G multi mode dongles are priced at Rs 7,999.

Compared to the existing 3G services that allow downloads speeds of up to 21 mbps (mega bytes per second), 4G allows download speeds of “upto 100 mbps’’ (almost 5 times higher than 3G).

The telecom major has appointed Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for building and operating network in the Maharashtra circle using TD-LTE -- one of the 4G technologies.

With the launch in Kolkata, Airtel has become become the first company to start 4G wireless services in the country.

The company had won BWA spectrum in 2010 for four telecom circles -- Kolkata, Maharashtra, Punjab and Karnataka and had paid Rs 3,314.36 crore.

The company was allocated 20 Mhz of BWA spectrum in 2.3 Ghz frequency band which is considered suitable for transmitting signals for operating 4G services.

    What you need 4G for?

Internet browsing? Indians do not have content services or rich applications to utilize HSPA+ access points.

IPL, Bollywood, Astrology is no content.

When Airtel was telling us about 4G
launch plans , you might have thought
they were kidding as we are still
getting used to 3G. But the Airtel 4G
website just went live. The 4G LTE
    networks promises speeds up to
40Mbps. The network uses 4G LTE-
    TDD technology which supports
speeds up to 100 Mbps.Initially access
will be based on a 4G USB Modem
and then a 4G LTE Indoor Wireless
    Gateway option would be available.
Tariffs look attractive for most users
but not for heavy downloaders with
plans starting at Rs.999 per month for
    6GB and Rs.1999 for 18GB. According
to the website the plans will be
    available both on prepaid and
postpaid. You will need a new
number for airtel 4G LTE which will be
using an USIM module. If you want to be amongst the first to
experience 4G in India, head straight
to Kolkata in West Bengal where the
service will launch first. It’s coming to
    Bangalore soon. FoneArena should
    have an update from Kolkata
    tomorrow regarding the 4G service
    launch in that city.

Complete IP-based communication? Seriously? In the beginning you will only have dongle based access points.

Now then, do we have mobiles and PDA's which we can get at somewhat a lower cost to afford for 4G use. I am talking by keeping the middle class in the mind and also with respect to the profit of the person who sells it. In INDIA it is the middle class community which participates more and also contribute more in making profits for the person who sells any products as they are the majority community in INDIA (AAM AADMI),

Airtel starts 4G trial in Mumbai; partners Flipkart, Samsung

Telecom major Airtel on Saturday started trial of 4G service in Mumbai and has partnered Flipkart to sell the service bundled with the devices of brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo, Asus and Huawei. The company has also partnered with Samsung India. Under the partnership with the South Korean handset maker, both the companies will promote each others’ 4G offerings at their respective outlets. On 4G trial in Mumbai, the company said the service will be offered to its existing 3G customers at 3G rates. “We want our existing customers to be the first ones to enjoy the Airtel 4G experience and are offering them a free upgrade to Airtel 4G at the same price as 3G,” Gujarat Ashok Ganapathy Bharti Airtel CEO for Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa said in a statement. The company will use the trial to gather customer feedback about the quality of its 4G service. Meanwhile, Samsung is looking at launching new core prime 4G mobile smartphone in Airtel 4G markets. Bharti Airtel will also soon bundle its 4G sim with devices of brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo, Asus and Huawei to be exclusively sold at Flipkart.
