Warsaw has chosen the EC725 Caracal Helicopters of Airbus over the American Sikorsky helicopter. A contract of 2.5 billion euros.
This is the contract of 2015, or even ... of the decade. As part of its tender estimated at around 2.5 billion euros for the choice of multi-role helicopter that will equip the Polish Army, Warsaw has chosen the EC725 Caracal of HA over the US rival Sikorsky (UTC Group) and the British-Italian AgustaWestland, written Tuesday the daily newspaper "Gazeta Wyborcza".
Sources close to the case confirmed this information to the "echoes". The official announcement is expected this afternoon by the Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz. The helicopter chosen now will undergo testing in Poland before contract signature expected before the end of the year, according to the Ministry of Defence.
A contract that is timely. The group led by William Faury was indeed replenish its backlog: last year, he sold 402 helicopters, 20 fewer than in 2013, but above 69 less than the number of deliveries (471).
An assembly line in Lodz
Warsaw wants the largest possible share of future production takes place in Poland Airbus. But Airbus Helicopters possessed no factory in the country unlike Sikorsky and AgustaWestland. But in February, the former Eurocopter opened in Lodz a research and development must employ a hundred engineers. "We are now in Lodz because we found here very good engineers, very good environment for investment," had déclaréGuillaume Faury at the inauguration of the center.
Airbus officials had confirmed on this occasion that in case of victory, an assembly line for helicopters and a production center would be located in Lodz.
