AIADMK will fight LS polls alone, can't rely on Cong or BJP: Jaya

Chennai: Slamming the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka for being "determined" in denying Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Monday said her party would go alone in the next Lok Sabha polls and secure all 40 seats in order to assert its rights in Delhi.

Both parties were "united" and "determined" not to give Tamil Nadu its due share of water from Cauvery River, a combative Jayalalithaa said in her address to partymen at the AIADMK general council near Chennai.

"To ensure Tamil Nadu's rights and prevent (Cauvery) delta regions from turning into a desert, we have to independently fight the coming Lok Sabha polls and win all 40 seats" (39 in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry), the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said, virtually sounding the election bugle.

"We have to work out our path. We can't be dependent on anyone as such a situation has been created. Some parties may have to depend on national parties like BJP or Congress which lead respective coalitions, but that depends on their situation," she said in an apparent reference to her main rival, the DMK.

However, her party was in a situation where it cannot depend on anyone. "We have to decide our future, chalk out our path. We cannot depend on BJP or Congress," she said in an impassioned appeal, observing she had all along in her life taken decisions for herself and not depended on others.

She neither had a family to fall back on and this was not out of choice but it was her "fate," she said.

Hitting out at the Congress and the BJP, she recalled that Congress leaders SM Krishna and M Veerappa Moily had accompanied the Karnataka BJP Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to impress upon the Prime Minister on Karnataka's reluctance to release water.

Taking a dig at the DMK on the issue, Jayalalithaa said "it is learnt that DMK MPs had during their meeting with the Prime Minister sought not to notify the final award of the Cauvery tribunal," reiterating her earlier similar remarks made in this matter.

Joining NDA would have affected her poll chances- Muslims-6%, Christians- 12%(pseudos included) of the total population of TN.

Partition does not seem like a bad idea now!

Nope, more seats she has in LS, more leverage power she can get, so understandable is the choice.

Besides DMK is part of the coalition with DMK and BJP doesn't really stand a chance in TN.

Whatever she says, she's Modi's GF. ;) btw, I never like any regional party. They're just bunch of blackmailers, hurting nation in one or another way.

Good move....anyone with a bit of understanding of TN politics will know that.

Forget Jaya ever aligning with Congress...her ego is too big for that.

I wont be that optimistic. The only reason ADMK has not aligned with CONgis "yet" is because DMK is not letting go of CONgis!

    Empty rhetoric from the lady.

Congress has some say in one or two seats, BJP does not have any say in TN. They are nobodies in the state.

Amma is in for a tough bargain and wants to keep her options open.
I think the BJP knows how bad she can hurt them, has happened once before and the country ended up in mid term elections.
Whoever make alliance with her, better be very clear and careful already. This one bites !!

Conventional wisdom says two ambitious ladies cant be together for a long time. Case in point Mamata and Sonia..even if Con and ADMK get into a relationship it will be short lived.

Not really. Congress still commands some respects in say about 3-4% of the population. BJP may be 1 or 2% but having BJP as an ally would mean loss of Minority votes which will be around 20% of the electorate(give or take)!

It was a time she did not experience Sonia. I may be wrong and I hope I am wrong...Sonia and Jaya can never share a working relationship.

Amma knows that come 2014 or 2013 whoever has even 25 seats will play an important role. She is going to exploit it to the hilt, provided - that is a big if-- she gets the seats.

Jayalalthaa is a cleaver and a shrewd lady. (Note: cleaver and not clever).

She is aware that both the Congress and the BJP are no game changers in TN and instead it is a straight contest between the two DMKs.

She will await the result and then decide which side the bread is buttered.

And then she will take a huge bite!

I have a strong feeling that she is more inclined towards NDA provided Modi is given a larger role..but she should not say that before the elections.

It all depends on one thing only! Power situation in TN. Thats why both DMK and Congress are actively trying to prevent resolving of the Power situation

So If Indians want NDA in power, pray that Tamil Nadu comes out of the power crisis:truestory:

Just FYI, her administration is way better then MK.

UPA gave more allocation of funds to TN givt under JJ, than to Tn govt under MK

Definitely her administration is better than the earlier goons, but the power crisis is eroding her chances. She needs to be seen to be acting on this issue.
