The Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC) has asked the government to focus on welfare of minorities in the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-13 to 2016-17), a recommendation that comes ahead of the assembly polls in five states in January-February.

Congress always remember Muslims before election. Cheap vote bank politics as usual.

It's time for Muslims to chose political parties, leaders based on performance & accountability and not on religious line !!

Very difficult to make the "right" choice among all the wrong parties.

Muslims are being taken for a ride and I don't have a reason to believe that they will wake up anytime soon.

Education is key. That apart political reform is needed as well as just like the nation at large, there is very little to chose from among the various parties. All are schmuks.

Congress is using Muslims for electoral gain. It's myth that they care for them. They just use "Fear factor of BJP/RSS/Modi" to get their votes.

In Last General election, Congress gave 0 ticket to Muslims in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttrakhand, Jharkhand, Gujarat (In these states, Muslims are around 10% (+/- 1%). They didn't gave tickets to Muslims as Muslims has no other options except Congress.

The states like Bihar, U.P., W.B., Assam, Kerala - Congress do give Tickets to Muslims as there are more parties who target Muslims (Like SP, BSP, LD - U.P., RJD, JD(u), LJP - Bihar, Left, ML - Kerala, Left, T.C. - W.B., AGP, IUDF - Assam)

I am not saying Muslims should vote to BJP, May be not. But They should dump Congress and chose other regional and national parties. :)

As far as UP goes, this is where BSP and SP came in but again there is no difference as they too play vote bank politics. Mayawati and Mulayam opposed India's relations with Israel citing "Muslim sentiments" in India which is ridiculous to say the least.

For me a Vajpayee led BJP was the best and it got my vote!!

Education is not the only criteria.

In State like Kerala, Literacy rate is 95%, In Mumbai, Delhi Literacy rate is more than 80% among Muslims. But They still prefer Congress. It's all about "Unknown Fear Factor that Congress always talks to take their vote".

I dislike religion and caste based politics.

So long that is the engine for India, then we will continue to stagnate and remain in narrow schisms.

I wish the NAC cared about those who live below Rs 36 (taking that Montek is right that Rs 37 and above is OK to have a jolly good life!).
