Agni-II Test Planned Between August 10 to August 12

http://newindianexpress.com/states/orissa/article581571.ece

The eighth test of Agni-II rail mobile IRBM is planned at ITR at Wheeler island between August 10 to August 12, the Indian Express reported on August 2, 2012.

The missile was last tested on on September 30, 2011 from Launch Complex IV at Wheeler Island off the Orissa coast by personnel of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the Indian Army.

During the test, the 1,550 and 1,860 miles range missile reached an apogee (peak altitude) of 220 km and hit the target.

According to The Hindu, the missile performed a manoeuvre as it plunged into the atmosphere experiencing a temperature of 3,000 deg Celsius

The GOI press release announcing the success of the missile test referred to the missile's "advanced high accuracy navigation system and guided by a novel scheme of state-of-the-art Command & Control System."

The missile is reported to use a combination of inertial and TDOA guidance.

DRDO Chief V.K. Saraswat described it as a dream launch, one of the finest launches of Agni-II. All the performance parameters of the mission such as velocity, terminal phase, trajectory and destruction of the warhead went as expected.

The CEP in the test was within a few meters, he said.

The Last Test : Sept 11.

Seventh Test

A user trial of the Agni-II missile was conducted by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the Indian Army at 9:30 hrs on September 30, 2011 from Launch Complex IV at Wheeler Island off the Orissa coast.

The missile reached an apogee (peak altitude) of 220 km and hit the target.

The GOI press release announcing the success of the missile test referred to the missile's "advanced high accuracy navigation system and guided by a novel scheme of state-of-the-art Command & Control System," a likely reference to the TDOA guidance scheme of the missile.

The test was earlier scheduled on August 29, 2011, but had to be aborted at the last minute as the missile developed technical glitches and ignition problem.

DRDO Chief V.K. Saraswat described it as a dream launch, one of the finest launches of Agni-II. All the performance parameters of the mission such as velocity, terminal phase, trajectory and destruction of the warhead went as expected.

The CEP in the test was within a few meters, he said.

Avinash Chander, Chief Controller, (Missiles and Strategic Systems), DRDO said that in the wake of two failures of Agni-II and one of Agni-II Prime earlier, a number of steps were taken to improve the quality. He said a specialist dedicated quality control agency did a good job of overcoming the control problems in the first stage.

Today at 6:45pm saw a bright light traveling faster than any jet, climbing altitude and then vanished into clouds..

Did they launched by mistake ? :D

Just kidding :p

These people are testing our missiles so frequently that you could have possible seen one. Hope they make a good production line out of these tests.

Agni-II Successfully tested, today.

Sharpening its missile teeth, India on Thursday successfully test-fired its medium range nuclear capable Agni-II missile with a strike range of 2000 km as part of a user trial by the army from the Wheeler Island off Odisha coast.

"The trial of the surface-to-surface missile was conducted from a mobile launcher from the Launch Complex-4 of Integrated Test Range around 08:48 hours," defence sources said.

Describing the launch as a complete success, ITR Director MVKV Prasad said, "All mission parameters were met during the trial of the indigenously developed missile."

Agni-II Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile has already been inducted into the services and Thursday's test was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command of the army with logistic support provided by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. "The 2000 km range versatile missile, already inducted and part of countries arsenal for strategic deterrence, was launched as a training exercise by the armed forces," a DRDO scientist said.

The two-stage missile equipped with advanced high accuracy navigation system, guided by a novel scheme of state of the earth command & control system was propelled by solid rocket propellant system, he said

The entire trajectory of the trial was tracked by a battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations, electro-optic instruments and naval ships located near the impact point in the down range area of the sea.

The 20-metre long Agni-II is a two-stage, solid-propelled ballistic missile. It has a launch weight of 17 tonnes and can carry a payload of 1000 kg over a distance of 2000 km.

The state-of-the-art Agni-II missile was developed by the advanced systems laboratory along with other DRDO laboratories and integrated by the Bharat Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad, the sources said.

Agni-II is part of the Agni series of missiles which includes Agni-I with a 700 km range, Agni-III with a 3,000 km range, Agni-IV and Agni-V.

The first prototype of Agni-II missile was carried out on April 11, 1999.

Though trial conducted on May 19, 2009 and the first night trial on November 23, 2009 from Wheelers Island could not meet all the parameters, all other trials including the last one carried out on September 30, 2011 from the same base were successful.

CONGRATS TO DRDO AND SFC

Agni-II Successfully Tested

The Agni-II was tested to its full range of more than 2,000 km on Thursday, August 9, 2012 from Wheeler Island off the Odisha Coast.

The missile carrying a dummy warhead of 1,000 kg, was fired at 8.46 a.m. from a rail mobile launcher by personnel of Strategic Force Command (SFC).

According to DRDO officials at Wheeler Island the two-stage solid-propelled missile followed a text-book trajectory, the re-entry systems worked well and the missile hit its target in the Bay of Bengal with a accuracy of "few meters" after a 700-second flight.

Two ships located near the target point tracked the warhead in its terminal phase and witnessed the final event. Radars and Electro-Optical Tracking stations tracked and monitored the missile and all the relevant parameters.

The officials said the test showed the Armed Forces can launch such ballistic missiles independently with the tapering off support from DRDO. It also confirmed that the production system has been completely established.

Updated: November 9, 2014 11:15 IST

Nuclear weapons capable, Agni-II ballistic missile was successfully test-fired for its full strike range of 2,000 km from the Wheeler Island off the Odisha Coast on Sunday.

The surface-to-surface missile was launched from a mobile launcher by the the personnel of Strategic Forces Command around 9. 40 am. After a reaching an altitude about 600 km, the missile climbed down and splashed into the waters of Bay of Bengal near its pre-designated impact point. in the Bay of Bengal with a two-digit accuracy, according to sources.

A battery of sophisticated radars, electro-optical tracking systems and telemetry stations along the East Coast tracked the trajectory and monitored various parameters of the missile from the launch till terminal phase during the 15-minute flight. Two down range ships also recorded the final event.

The two-stage, 20-metre tall missile, which can carry a payload of one tonne, has already been inducted.

The entire exercise was carried out by the SFC personnel as part of regular user training under the supervision of missile scientists from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which designed and developed the weapon system.

V. G.Sekaran, Director-General DRDO, (Missiles and Strategic Systems), M V K V Prasad, Director of Integrated Test Range, Lakshminarayana, Project Director, senior DRDO scientists and Army officials others were present.

now it turn out this was for A2, best part we have off limit the entire area, not the likes of Pakistanis who have just alert the selected area, where they think that stages will drop.

Congrats to all SFC, DRDO, BEL and BDL guys.
