Mandus group said that it'll work on both 39 and 52 calibre simultaneously, so while this a tremendous development, I am more exited about the latter as IA will try to sneak it's way out of the commitment for 39 calibre.

Please do educate me whether Dhanush - locally made artillery from Bofor drawings is being dumped or remedial measures are being taken to resurrect it.

It passed all tests except one piece of artillery shell hit the muzzle brake. That should be easy to determine the cause and remedy it.

To me it looks that all attention suddenly has been diverted to Kalyani and TATA made artillery. Nobody seems to be working on Dhanush.

What's the point in investing and developing new armaments when no orders are being placed ? Till date the govt has hardly placed any new orders with the Private sector. Look at the case of Punj loyd-IWI venture - even after setting up a factory all they received was retracted tenders as in the LMG case. Only a fool would like to spend millions on development, trials etc when the outcome is so uncertain.

Difference is different private sector companies are basically entering into licence manufacturing agreement with foreign OEM so that the product can come under "Make in India" scheme. There is 0 % transfer of technology. the private companies are reluctant to enter R&D as it is risky affair and may not yield a desired product.
Whereas kalyani group invested in domestic R&D and now has developed 4 artillery products within 6-7 years : 155*52 BHARAT ; 155*52 ATAGS with DRDO ; 155*39 ULH with Mandus group as well as 105 mm with DRDO. This investment was a risky investment but Baba Kalyani proved to be a visionary and propelled India to be a world leader in artillery systems.

Sad if true.

But afaik, M777 was a G2G deal and only after the contract was signed, 2 units were delivered to IA who took to Rajasthan firing ranges for calibration of its firing & range tables. That's where the barrell explosion occured , most probably due to faulty ammo.

Kalyani Group has completed internal trials of the Ultralight 155 mm, 39 cal howitzers and will be soon ready fr Army trials, Kalyani Group which is pitching its ULH segment to the Indian Army has developed 3 variants of the ULH to supplement imported M777 procured by the IA

This ...in a nutshell is what is TOTALLY wrong with our military when it comes to indigenous arms.
They simply DO NOT WANT to work with pvt players and co-develop something.
No long term vision from military.
