New Delhi: After assessing security preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir last week, Indian Army chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor would be visiting the northeast region on Tuesday to review the security situation, defence officials said today.

"General Deepak Kapoor is visiting Rangapahar military station on Tuesday and Wednesday. He will be accompanied by his wife Kirti Kapoor, and Lt-Gen V.K. Singh, the general officer commanding-in-chief, Eastern Command," a defence ministry official said.

"Kapoor will review the security situation in Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, South Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He will also hold detailed discussions relating to security situation in the northeast, and review the deployment of security forces in the region," the official added.

Last week, the Army chief visited the Kashmir Valley to review the security and preparedness of security arrangements for the Amaranth Yatra, the annual pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Amarnath. (IANS)
