Karnataka Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has strongly opposed any move to shift 'Aero India', a prestigious airshow, out of Bengaluru, asserting that the issue of air space management can be sorted out through proper coordination and planning. In a letter to Defence Minister A.K. Antony, he said it has come to the notice of the state government that there is a move to shift Aero India, held biennially at Air Force Station, Yelahanka, out of Bengaluru.

"I am told that this has come up because of BIAL (Bangalore International Airport Limited) taking up the issue of Airspace management and because Ministry of Civil Aviation has approached MoD (Ministry of Defence) to consider moving (the) air show to a location where there is greater free space available", he said.

Gowda noted that BIAL runway was closed in April this year for almost 30 days from 10.30 am to 5 pm for maintenance and repair of runway for maintenance and repair of runway.

"Hence, it may not be difficult to close BIAL runway for five days during Aero India show timings, in case of any difficulty in managing air space", the Chief Minister said.

He pointed out that there was a reasonably fixed calendar for conduct of air shows at the global level. Moving to a different location would necessitate change of time of the year due to weather and other constraints and it would be extremely difficult to fit into the existing schedule of global air shows.

World over, these events are accommodated through careful planning and coordination. Even with extensive air traffic these locations are not moved around and become part of the industry eco system – Farnborough, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, Singapore and Zhuhai (China).

"(The) State Government is strongly of the opinion that through proper coordination and planning the issue of air space management can be sorted out", he said.

The entire aerospace industry is located in Bangalore.

It will be too troublesome for our aerospace fraternity to travel out of Bangalore just to see a damn exhibition.

Yelahanka has good infrastructure already in place too. Parking, Traffic, Food etc are pretty manageable.

Its better to stick with Bangalore

Airshow in Hyderabad was very disappointing last time. Besides, The Begumpet Airport isnt too big to handle so many different aircrafts

Why dont they shift to the Old HAL airport in the old airport road? That has all the needed infrastructure to and it was actually the former airport of Bangalore.

There is no parking there. The traffic congestion will be unmanageable.

Aero India 2013: Countdown begins for the sky party

Tarmak007 -- A bold blog on Indian defence: Aero India 2013: Countdown begins for the sky party
~
Triggering the imagination ofaviation aficionados across the world, particularly those in the aviation capital of Bangalore, the Ministry of Defence has set the ball in motion for the 9th edition of International Exhibition on Aerospace, Defence and CivilAviation. The next edition will be held from February 6 to 10 at Yelahanka Air ForceStation, Bangalore.
This puts to rest the rumours hovering around about a possible shift of venue and even cancellationof the event. Speculations were strong that the show would be shifted this time outof Bangalore with the air traffic restrictions it would impose on the BIAL airport. In2011, BIAL had to tweak its schedules in tune with the air display plans, causing concerns to many. A section of aviation pundits also argued that the air show haslost its sheen, after Dassaultclinched the $10-plus-billion deal for 126 Rafale jets.
Speaking to City Express, Sitanshu Kar, spokesperson for Ministry of Defence, said that the official countdown has already begun. "While it might be too early to say who is coming and not, we have got into the air show mode. In 2011, we had exhibitors participating from 29 countries, including 675 companies (380 overseas and 295 domestic). In addition close to 50 overseas delegations touched down in Bangalore. We will get a clear picture about this year's show in thecoming days," Kar said.
It's just 64 for more days from today, for the plane carnival.

Perhaps they might come up with a Naval version of MIG-35 or a brand new upgrade of MIG-29K par with MIG-35..

Livefist: Aero India Spotlight On Unfinished Chopper Bid
At Aero India 2011, Eurocopter displayedthe AS 550 C3 Fennec , its contender for the Indian Army / IAF reconnaissance and surveillance helicopter (RSH) competition. This year, its competitor Kamov will display the Ka-226T Sergei .
The timeline of this competition so far provides a better sense of just how delayed it is:

Last checked, the MoD hasn't opened commercial offers yet, and a decision remains pending. Last month, the two contenders -- Kamov and Eurocopter -- were asked to renew theircommercial offers fora record fourth time.
The Army is reportedto have appealed to the MoD for the fourth time recently to speed up the process and make a decision. MoD sources suggest thatinquiries into alleged corrupt practices in aseparate deal for AgustaWestland VVIPhelicopters (deliveries of which have begun) have slowed a decision on the 197 copter bid.
