Nationalist political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has asked London-born singer of Indian-Pakistani origin Adnan Sami to leave the country immediately as his visa has expired, an official said.

The MNS Film Wing chief Amey Khopkar called Sami, 44, to the party office in the afternoon and spoke to him for over an hour.

"We summoned him after getting complaints from various quarters that his visa had expired on October 6 and that he was staying in India illegally," Khopkar said soon after the meeting.

At the meeting, Sami said the renewal process of his visa was currently underway.

We hope that he leaves the country immediately and returns only after his visa has been renewed," Khopkar said.

Sami's visa expiry issue came to the fore during the hearing of his ongoing divorce-cum-property case against his former second wife Sabah Galadari in a Mumbai court last week.

At that time, Sami – who has been living and working in India for 14 years – said that his visa had been regularly renewed and the last renewal was for the period from September 26, 2012 to October 6.

Sami, born in 1969 in London to a former Pakistani diplomat, Arshad Sami Khan and Indian mother Naureen Khan, informed the court that the process to renew his visa was currently underway.

He sings and composes music for many albums in English and Hindi, as well as doing playback singing in Bollywood.

Good move by MNS.

This should send a warning signal to others who are overstaying in India.

There are lot of actors & workers whose visa is expired in India. Hope GOI sends all of them back to their countries( especially from porkland & beggerland).

Interesting points

As mentioned by sir ray.

Adnan was born in UK in 1962 from paki father and Indian muslim mother.

according to uk law of that time any child born on UK soil before 1980 irrespective of parents nationality is british.

so we assume adnan is british citizen. by virtue of his Indian mother, he is PIO( person if Indian origin)

iam surprised ,if he has not applied for PIO card

Acctualy MNS forgot he is half Indian and has right to live in India if he gets PIO card

NEW DELHI: Pakistani singer Adnan Sami has applied for Indian citizenship for a second time despite an earlier plea of his having been rejected by the Centre. The 43-year-old singer -- whose earlier request was rejected some two years back -- has made his application to the Foreigners' Division of the Home Ministry. "His application is under consideration," official sources said. Last month, Home Ministry had asked Law Ministry as to whether Sami can be granted Indian citizenship. But Law Ministry refused to entertain the request, saying that the power of granting Indian citizenship lies with the Home Ministry under the Citizenship Act. The Law Ministry, however, said that it can help Home Ministry with the interpretation of any provision of the Citizenship Act to enable it to decide the case. Under the Indian Citizenship Act, a foreigner is entitled to receive citizenship provided that he or she has rendered distinguished service to the cause of science, philosophy, art, literature, world peace or human progress. Sami, who has a Pakistani passport, had arrived in India in 2001 and, between 2001 and 2013, visited the UK and several other countries. He has a business and professional visa. His earlier application for citizenship was submitted to the special branch of Mumbai Police.

Ah, here's a chance for Togadia to sneak in and do some GharWapsi. :D

If that happens, the internet Hindus will create such a din in favour of Adnan getting Indian citizenship (tagging Modi, Gadkari, Rajnath and other government luminaries), Adnan might even have a chance at Indian citizenship. :D
