It's a animated image, not a actual one.

Mid-Wing drop tank is under development/testing.
Are you sure? I have been seeing this particular picture for 10 years now.

Since the talk of hard points is going on, I always wanted to know why hasn't ADA attempted this configuration for LCA.

Surely wingspan of missiles and placement of landing gear are things to consider but AAM like ASRAAM can be the solution to this problem.

@bennedose Of the people I know you have been following the programme longest, any insights to offer?

Their are some recent updates, Mid wing pylon may feature drop tanks ..

We may see it in near future ..

=======

Source : Indranil at BR
"May" but what would be the benefit? In A2A that's useless and more important would be supersonic fuel tanks.
In A2G, you could add heavier weapons to the inner wingstations, but reduce the fuel capacity at the same time.
And it doesn't free additional hardpoints either.

Btw, any official updates on the supersonic fuel tanks?

This is quite old photo from official source, probably from late 90s to mid 2000s ..

The recent updates about mid wing pylonwhich indicated by Indranil could be about this
So he is talking about outdated plans and dumb bombs?

SPJ pod for LCA :confused1:

tender out for manufacture

That`s up-to the requirement that IAF has put and scientific community working on it, I don`t have any comment to do as i am not in their shoes ..

No update on supersonic tanks ..

Updates from IR@BR

Gun trials : They are going to do some ground tests before the year closes out and based on that take it to the air.

BVR : Derby firing within 2 months.

FOC : FOC is a moh-maya now. An occasion for VIP's to to take time of their busy schedules to dedicate the aircraft to the nation and their own names to some plaque.

Production Rate : Tejas production rate is being steadily increasing to 16 aircraft per year and IAF is accepting them as soon as they come.

LSPs are flying in excess of 70 test flights in every month and new capabilities are being cleared on a weekly basis.

#TejasUpdate #3
6th Series Prod fighter from #Tejas flightline (SP-7), had its 1st flight on Dec 12. SP-5 from 2nd prod line (Aircraft Div, HAL) will be next 2 fly. Platforms up to SP-10 are under equipping final assembly hangar. Stay tuned for more updates. #DNKT

*It takes around 90 days in equipping line. So, hopefully SP10 will be ready by March-18.

We will have 10 LCA's by end of this financial year and as per production rate of 16 we will have the next 10 by December 2018. If we do not have MK1A in time for serial production then the LCA line will be ideal for some time which is bad for HAL and make in India. There is when the import lobby will start dancing

SP-10 by March 2018 is still satisfactory performance from HAL. But with more and more delay in SP-5 test fly there is a doubt regarding the quality of the second production facility.

Problem is not only with the production line, but with supply of subcomponents too. If you have followed recent news article in past, you might have came across the statement by HAL chairman where he mentioned that subcomponent delivery has not been upto mark.

Now we could always cry about HAL being inefficient and passing on the Tejas manufacturing to pvt parties. But at the end of the day, the pvt parties would look at their sustainability and profit interest before taking a dip into any such venture.

Nope, nothing to worry about.

There can always be hiccups in making something new assembly line.

Machines will be new as well as Engineers will be doing it for first time.

And we need to be extremely careful, one failure for Tejas and you know what can happen.

After first 20 aircrafts of IOC2 standard, 20 more are on order of FOC standard.

Next financial year, 16/yr rate was not planned & will not be achieved.

HAL can't be blamed for this.

Govt needs to take ownership and push IAF for maybe 1 more Squadron of Tejas before MK1A can be ready.

Friends, even though this is not related to LCA. PLEASE CIRCULATE THIS IN ALL POSSIBLE WAYS.

Folks, if you think that @YouTube's decision to cancel @delhidefence's channel is unfounded, do let them know via messages on various platforms. Thank you for your support and commitment to indigenization.

LA-5004 (SP-4) prior to getting into Sqn fleet, completing her initial block of flights.
After SP7 (LA-5007) did her maiden flight, will undergo similar process but with a faster pace as the initial hiccups have been left behind. Soon SP5 (LA-5005) will commence this process. For viewer’s benefit, SP-5 is being getting ready by the second production line. We expect the first flight of SP-5 to take place before this month end.
