Lca mk 2 is going to production in 2017 so no need to worry
If prototype is built in 2015 & if testing goes fine then 2017 it will be under production . What if there is a delay?

Even production starts no guarantee on HAL that they will deliver on time:taunt:

yeh, it will house Israeli Elta 2052 AESA Radar....
i think the production version of LCA Mk-II will hav an indigenous AESA build by DRDO and not the Israeli radar.
in a recent interview V K Saraswat talks abt the development of the radar is well underway,
which is posted in the first page of this thread.

Work for lca mk2 is started, what now they are waiting for is engine(expected to come in late june-july 2013).
Lca is modified to insert the new engine with the help from GE. First lca mk2 is expected to fly before the end of 2014.
Lca Mk2 will initially have mmr radar. Later replaced by drdo asea(meaning they are not linked -depends on drdo speed).

@Defcon 1

I think you asked me sometime back about 6 and 8 LCAs ordered for the Navy.

Yeah. There were 6 Mk1s ordered along with 8 Mk2s. The 6 are meant for training. I think decklander stated the same earlier. They are to replace older Sea Harriers.

Yes, thanks for the reply. So are you suggesting that the 6 ordered were 2 seater versions?

I suppose they are two seaters. There were reports these aircraft won't see carrier service, so these could be it.

When an aircraft like TEJAS mk-1 which has a

1.high thrust to weight ratio of 1.07 ,

2. lowest wing loading(means highest possible lift per Kg for the weight carried , as evident from it's specified performance LEH ),

3. has 7 hard points which allow it to carry an external fuel tank and 6 pylons for air to air and air sea missiles,

4 has other tejas mk-1s as escorts with full air to air role then

What precludes it from carrier operations?

Does it mean that

all the naval fighters which entered service till to date have far lower wing loading and far higher thrust to weight ratio than TEJAS mk-1 or else,

Guys i'm jus learning stuffs so ppl with knowledge pls provide these details,

1. What is the state of our indigenous AESA radar. What is the anticipated pwr o/p. Detection range. Number of TR modules.

2. What is goin on with Kaveri engine.

3. What is the RCS figure for Tejas Mk1 and what is expected of Mk2. And is there any plans for RAM coatings on Mk2.

4. Since its gonna b a bigger engine in Mk2 will it give tejas supersonic at all levels. And with increased fuel capacity but with bigger engine hw far the range will be increased.

Thank you in advance for those who reply.

ps: Guys are there anyone trying to make win 8 metro app for DFI. if so it wud b gr8 to have one. Luk'n 4wrd to it.

Don't know
2. What is goin on with Kaveri engine.
We are trying to form jv with france, no good news so for. But our engineers are continueing the work r/d work.

No one knows. We can only guess. All our combat fighters have RAM coating.
4. Since its gonna b a bigger engine in Mk2 will it give tejas supersonic at all levels. And with increased fuel capacity but with bigger engine hw far the range will be increased.
Not bigger engine, only output thurst is higher with little structural modification. 500kg fuel will be increased. Range 1000km approx.

From today's technology, except for power output, it shouldn't be greatly different from Rafale or Mig-35. Too early to say.

2. What is goin on with Kaveri engine.
It is still going on and on and on. Deal with France did not go through. So, a tender will be initiated for co-development of K-10.

K-9 is expected to be used in UAVs, tanks (depending on FMBT requirements) and ships.

3. What is the RCS figure for Tejas Mk1 and what is expected of Mk2. And is there any plans for RAM coatings on Mk2.
We have no idea and we never will find out. LSP-6 is expected to use RAM for tests.

4. Since its gonna b a bigger engine in Mk2 will it give tejas supersonic at all levels. And with increased fuel capacity but with bigger engine hw far the range will be increased.
The wing and fuselage will be bigger, so more fuel. But with corresponding increase in fuel, there is a corresponding increase in thrust. In the end they may be trying to maintain current figures.

Range should continue to be around 1600-1700 Km without external tanks. But it is subjective.

1. What is the state of our indigenous AESA radar. What is the anticipated pwr o/p. Detection range. Number of TR modules.
In 2009, it was reported that two X-Band T/R modules for AESA-MMR were delivered to LRDE and were under testing with the radar testing to be concluded by 2014 (link). In 2011 the vendor, in its newsletter claimed:-
Astra has successfully developed a one stop solution for T/R modules by providing complete MMIC chipsets in C & X bands.
..............................
The MMICs in the transmit chain can cater to power levels of 38dBm in C band and up to 10W in X-band.
..............................
Having established the C & X-band TRM Chipsets, Astra is in the process of developing Ku & Ka band Chip sets.
Not much information has come out since then. Even if the T/R module development is done, there is more to AESA radar than what meets the eye.

2. What is goin on with Kaveri engine.
The talks with Snecma have broken down and the establishment is going for a global tender (link). Eurojet has has expressed its willingness to cooperate ( link, jump to last page)

3. What is the RCS figure for Tejas Mk1 and what is expected of Mk2. And is there any plans for RAM coatings on Mk2.
Do not expect any serious answer to this on the internet unless backed by a quote from a credible source. Any claims otherwise, should be immediately discounted.

4. Since its gonna b a bigger engine in Mk2 will it give tejas supersonic at all levels. And with increased fuel capacity but with bigger engine hw far the range will be increased.
If it happens, the designers and test pilots would get on top of a mountain and shout it out to the whole world. Wait and watch is the key :).

Nothing great about it. Google programs are designed to give current news above static pages. Wait for another couple of months and Kaveri news will go down into pages of google...
