Fooling Nehru? You got to be kidding! Chou insisted to started a diplomatic negotiation which was rejected by Nehru for many times! Even after Nehru initiated his stupied "forward policy", this suggestion was still offered. No, Nehru was fooled by anyone but himself! He just believed that Chinese would give in where they were facing india army!
Just like Brigadier above, I too like fairy tales, especially the Chinese ones!! The bad foreigners forcing PLA for a fight!

Actually, no smoking is right. Chou en Lai did offer to negotiate with Nehru a couple of times. However, at that time, since Partition had just taken place, the attitude was India was not going to lose another inch of its territory come what may. So Nehru rejected all offers of negotiation and instead instituted the "Forward Policy". I believe this has been mentioned in Brig. Dalvi's book on the subject as well.

That attitude continues to this day. Although of course, even if the Indian attitude changes today, the Chinese have gone back on their offer of swapping Arunachal Pradesh for Aksai Chin. Now they want to claim both regions as their own.

Time for China to give up delusions, and resolve to extend military presence to South Asia.

India's paranoia over China is the very reason why China should maintain a constant military presence in India ocean, only that could make a paranoid India think twice before taking adventurism against China.

China has thousands of merchandise ships passing through India ocean each year, but their vulnerability concerns China considering enormous threat posed by an unfriendly India, protection from Chinese navy stationed in the region is a must if China wishes to make sure trade with other countries not be cut off by India.
India is not unfriendly, it is China who is acting as an enemy. China supplied nuclear weapons to a state with which India has fought several wars. That was China's biggest stupidity, and guaranteed that no sane Indian would think of China as a friend.

Furthermore, China continues to make demands on Indian territory, not just Aksai Chin which is already in Chinese possession, but also Arunachal Pradesh. The Chinese claim that since AP was part of some old Tibetan kingdom in the Middle ages, and now Tibet is part of China, so AP must also be part of China. Yea right! By that ridiculous logic all of China should be part of Mongolia!

^ One epic comment from that link

Why not request China to take over Pakistan in full..? That will at least save attacks from the terrorists and China will try to straighten the dogs' tail for ever...
the soil of pakistan belongs to pakistani people there.....no other 1 has the rights and shouldnt have the intention of taking any of it......why would prc request that?

The so called negotiation, if you check the history, is full of double talk.

Typically Chinese - neither here, nor there!

RK Nehru's Note, who was pro China, should be read after his visit to Peking.

But the Pak had offered a non-nuclear south asia treaty to india, which was rejected. And considering india's hugh conventional military advantage over Pak, no one would believe india would need that in its war against Pak. So, obviously, any Chinese would conclude that india's nuclear weapons was aiming at no one but China.

Well, untill today, india parliament sitll insists that india should take Aksai China back, wouldn't it be naive if China gives up its claim on Arunachal Pradesh unilaterally?
