Abhijit Mukherjee the Congress MP and son of President Pranab Mukherjee has sparked new row.
The comments he made on Delhi gang rape protestes have caught social and paid media's attention alike.
Translation of some of his comments :
'These pretty ladies coming to protest are highly 'dented painted' chasing two minutes of fame. I doubt they are students."
It is fashionable these days to go to discotheques and then hold candle marches.
"What's happening in Delhi is like the Pink Revolution, conducted by people who have no idea of ground reality."

Painted women protesting in Delhi, not students: Abhijit Mukherjee | Firstpost
While many in India may see the protests in Delhi a sign of protest against the treatment of women in the country, President Pranab Mukherjee‘s son and MP Abhijeet Mukherjee claimed that the women participating in the protests were “pretty women who were dented and painted”.

In an interview to ABP Ananda, Abhijeet Mukherjee said, “This is almost like the Pink Revolution. These women who are protesting have no contact with ground reality.”

“These pretty women, dented and painted, who come for protests are not students. I have seen them speak on television, usually women of this age are not students,” he said in Bengali.

He said that students, who go to discotheques, think it is a fashion statement to hold candles and protest.

Mukherjee’s comments drew flak from women politicians including Brinda Karat and Smriti Irani, who said the comments were extremely obnoxious and demanded a public apology.

His comments come at a time when the whole nation is seething over the brutal rape of a 23-year-old Delhi girl who is fighting for her life. She was admitted to the the Safdarjung Hospital on 16 December and was moved to the Mt Elizabeth Hospital last night for further treatment. Her condition remains critical.

He seems to be an idiot!

It is not the women of Delhi and elsewhere who have no contact with the ground and grassroot reality.

It is the Congress Party and the Government which is totally divorced from reality.

It was a pleasure to see that oaf, Abhishek Singhvi, on the TV getting the hiding of his life and told that he was waffling.

Even Harish Salve who normally supports the Govt let him have it right and proper and more so, Shobha Dey who pulled Sanghvi up and told him to not to be Rip Van WInkle!

Sanghvi quit the show and was seen slinking away like a whipped person who could take it no more!

TimesNow was good enough not to comment and quickly changed the frame.

Shows how the media and that too, TimesNow has been spooked after the Jindal issue understanding the long arm of the Govt!

So does he mean that going to discotheques is immoral?
That you can't ask questions and demand justice if you've sinned by going to a discotheque? :dude:
He says that the protestors don't know the ground reality.
I say the politicians don't know any of it now. They will, when the rug will be pulled off from under their feet.
And how does it matter whether the protestors are students or not.
Isn't it enough that they are Indians.
Oh wait .. perhaps for the politicians, a real protestor is the one who is organized by political parties and ferried to the protest ground by their own goons.
If they heed the call of conscience and gather on their own, for their own issues - no Sir they can't be genuine protestors.

    No.

Like all politicians, he has no idea of the reality.

And like all politician's children, he thinks he is immune and can say what he wants.

    Dixit's son is another example.

They want to ride on their parent's shoulder for their one minute of fame talking gibberish!

They fail to realise that they come out as total fools!

Delhi protests are by 'dented and painted' women: President Pranab's son | NDTV.com
    Excerpt:
...."Women who are participating in candle-light vigils and those who are protesting have no connection with ground reality. These pretty ladies coming out to protest are 'highly dented and painted'," he said in an interview to the ABP news channel in Bengal. "I have my doubts...how many of these women are students...women in these age groups are generally no longer students"....

I beg to differ while all the ladies are out to protest it should be noted that when you have the more to lose its up to you to protect yourself.

That goes don't go out with strangers, don't stick out late outside and don't get drunk this might reduce exposure to predators but though most of the cases rape are committed by known person.

There is no remedy about that and so rapists continue to let free their basic instincts.

You feel that even the basic policing should not be done because people don't protect themselves?

May I ask, do you have to protect yourself from being attacked by Pakistanis even though there is an Armed Force to do so?

What is the Police force there for?

To blame the police is entirely ridiculous we cannot expect police protection everywhere, what I am trying to say is that adopting cautious approach can definitely reduce exposure to predators on the roads.

Police has done its job in this case given that they have nabbed the rapist up to the court to give the sentence don't mix the role.

Yes if there is are Pakistani troops on the roads everyone have to resist :)

Abhijit's comment is of bad taste & shows his apathy towards the victims. But some people do take advantage to come into limelight by taking part in protests just to get the footage on camera.

    How could Abhijit generalize?

He is a dunce of the first order.
But looking at Mr.Singhvi on Times Now yesterday it does seem that the Congress Party has decided to attack the protestors. Mr.Singhvi also made some comments like reasonable protestors and hysterical protestors.

If this is the attitude of the ministers and MPs from the Governing party than they need to be immediately pulled up and removed from their position.

He is the son of the President and so he would know the 'inner' parleys because of his father's position.

    Hence, he is the news.

Media has played a major role in educating the Nation as to what is going on.

The scams would never have surfaced by for the media, more so, the electronic media and its debates wherein the views are heard live.

We never knew of such scams before, and surely there were many, because the print media was not a medium for live comments and instead gave the view of the editorial board and the owners and thus slanted news!
