AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal comes under fire over meeting Muslim cleric

Aam Aadmni Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday came under attack from the BJP and Congress for meeting controversial Muslim cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan in Bareilly recently and was accused of playing the 'communal card'.
While Congress dubbed AAP as the "B team of BJP", the BJP lashed out at Kejriwal saying the meeting has exposed him.

The AAP chief on Tuesday sought to downplay the meeting saying he had gone to Bareilly on a religious tour and met the Muslim leader because "he is a respectable person in the town".

"I had gone to the dargah to pray for a corruption free India and met Mualana Raza Saheb as he is a very respected man there. I met him and appealed him that everyone should come together to save the country as it is going through a sensitive phase," Kejriwal said.

On the accusation of playing 'the communal card',Kejriwal said he has been visiting temples, mosques and meeting many people.

He clarified that he was not aware of the charges against the Maulana of issuing a fatwa against Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.

He said that he spoke to the muslim cleric today again and he told him that all that is being said about him is wrong.

"I spoke to him and he told me that he can never issue a fatwa as fatwa is issued by Mufti. He told me that the head of a board of hundred people, of which he too was a member years ago, had issued the fatwa. He also told me that just because he is more known and respected among the people, his name came into the picture," Kejriwal said.

The AAP chief said that he and his party followers don't believe in the politics of violence and they have entered politics to change it.

Moreover, he said, that his party is not getting into any alliance with the Maulana.

When asked about the meeting, Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan said that he always liked Kejriwal for initiating the India against Corruption movement.

"To stem the rot in the system, one has to get into the system. To clean the garbage, we need 'Jhadu' (broom--AAP's poll symbol)," the Maulana said.

Congress spokesman Meem Afzal alleged that Kejriwal whose politics originated with the backing of the RSS was trying to make Muslims "a football" for electoral mileage.

Congress and its supporters calling Kejriwal B team of BJP And RSS.
BJP and its supporters calling Kejriwal B team of Congress and Muslims.

Strengthens my belief that this guy is doing something right.

Bad decision in meeting the cleric.
His image will definitely take a hit.

But, I was surprised that UP govt. had made him ( the cleric) vice chairman of some board/organisation which carries the privileges of minister of state.

Also, what I picked from TV clipping is that he broke up from supporting current UP govt. after the Muzaffarnagar riots. So, timings is also important.

He rejoined SP soonafter. He still has Minister privileges.

Atleast one thing is certain, Tauqeer would not be campaigning for any other party. Good going by AK. Let him pretend to cower behind Paid BJP and Cong media. ;)

Re: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal comes under fire over meeting Muslim cl

He has issued many fataawa (plural of fatwa, Islamic rulings) on many different Islamic matters.

    Organ transplant and blood transfusion[edit]
"One cannot donate blood and organs because these are the Amanah (property) of Allah, therefore it is not permissible to donate any part of one's body or (donate) the blood."[19]

One Imam conducting Jummah prayer in two places[edit]
"There is no legitimacy to lead Jummah prayer anywhere after you have performed it in one place. It is not allowed to perform Jummah prayer in jail at any cost. [Muslim] prisoners should recite Zuhr individually."[20]

    Birth of a girl[edit]
Akhtar Raza stated that it is un-Islamic to be dissatisfied at the birth of a girl, as all children are to be considered a blessing.[7]

    Islamic attire[edit]
"It is required that a person dresses in a certain manner or has to wear a uniform to identify his profession. If these rules are not followed, then one is dismissed. Similarly, in Islam, different codes of dressing have been set aside for Muslims so that they can be recognized among the non-Muslims. If this dress code is not followed, then we deserve to be punished as well."[7]

Akhtar Raza prohibited wearing of the tie and said Muslims must strictly abstain from it. He has written a full book regarding this called Tie Ka Masa'la.[7][21]

"He who shaves his beard or gets his beard less than fistful is declared sinful. To such a person who commits this sin is not able to lead the prayers. It is Makruh-e-Tahrimi (strongly disliked) to perform Salaah behind him."[22]

    Weddings[edit]
Akhtar Raza stated that the qualities that one should look for in a marriage partner are piety and fear of God. Neither the bride nor the groom should be forced into a marriage. The bride's mother's consent is just as important. He said that the name of the bridegroom, his father's name and the amount of Mahr (dower money paid by groom to bride) should be discussed and accepted by the bride. Further the man should be allowed to see the girl without her knowledge.[7]

    Wahhabism[edit]
The Grand Mufti, and in general all Sunni Barelwis, oppose the Wahhabi deobandi movement of Islam, which is funded and encouraged by Saudi Arabia. Akhtar Raza has criticized the Wahhabis, and issued fatwas that permit Muslims making supplication, near the mausoleums of the Aulias (Muslim saints after Muhammad) and allowing intercession to be sought from them (i.e., praying to Allah though the medium of the Sufi saints). He says: In fact, Wahhabis have refused the commands of the Holy Quran and authentic Traditions of the Holy Messenger (Sallal-Laahu Ta'ala Alaihi Wasallam) and have adopted very irrespective manners towards the Saints and pious persons. They are misled and every baseless act of Wahhabis is against Islamic faith.[23]

Further, he says, It is my advice to all Sunnis and especially to the Mureeds (disciples) of Silsila Razvia to keep away from all these wrong doings. Please also avoid sending your children to Wahhabi Madrassas and Darul Ulooms and bring them up in a Sunni environment and make them refrain from being Wahhabi.[24]

The Deobandi school of Islam, which has stricter rules in regards to reverence of Sufi Saints, has been declared un-Islamic by Akhtar Raza: It is not permissible to read Namaaz behind a Deobandi Aalim (singular of Ulema) on any account. Namaaz performed behind a Deobandi Aalim, as well as behind unbelievers, is totally incorrect.[25]
Akhtar Raza Khan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kejriwal goes a meets a Maulana and he claims - that he was not aware of the charges against the Maulana of issuing a fatwa against Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.

Just goes to show he knows nothing of what is happening around him and this was a serious thing that rocked the Nation and he does not know!

I am sure Kejriwal (who I was supporting) also does not know:

There was an interesting news on Wednesday. It said that Uttar Pradesh Government, headed by a young Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, has given a Minister of State post to a Muslim cleric two days ago. Giving this post basically means that he was not democratically elected, but was specially appointed at the discretion of the Chief Minister.

Then we heard that there were protests by BJP against this move. Most casual observers would then move on to the next news item. What’s so special in a seemingly pro-Hindu BJP protesting against a secular Government giving Minister status to a Muslim Maulana? That’s probably the thought process of a typical Left liberal person in India. Hey, wait, there’s a lot more to this. Spare a few minutes.

This particular case involves a prominent Muslim cleric of Barelvi Sect, Mohammed Tauqeer Raza Khan. He’s now an adviser in Handloom Department – a Minister of State. Khan is the Itihaad-e-Millat Council president and belongs to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

Why is this particular case so important to look deeper into?

It’s because, this is not just a simple vote bank political move, of giving Minister status to a Muslim cleric. For understanding this, you need to go a few steps back via flashbacks, in a typical Bollywood masala movie style.

    Flashback 1: Mar 12, 2010
Hindu Muslim riots flare up again in Bareilly, after Tauqeer’s release.

A relatively peaceful city, for Uttar Pradesh’s communal tension standard, Bareilly, witnessed yet another round of riots after this Tauqeer Raza Khan was released by Mayawati Government. Khan was ordered to be released soon after all the charges, except a milder one under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code, were removed by the Uttar Pradesh administration and he was allowed to walk free following immense pressure from the members of his community.

The important question here is, what was this ‘immense’ pressure from his community on Mayawati of BSP? Why did she yield? More importantly, why was he arrested in the first place?

    Flashback 2: Mar 9, 2010
A Muslim cleric arrested for communal clash in Bareilly

Security was intensified in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district following the arrest of a leading cleric for his alleged role in last week’s communal clash. Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, president of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council, was arrested. It was his “rabble rousing speech” that had led to communal tension in the district last week, officials said.

“Fearing a backlash from his supporters, a heavy security cover has come up in parts of the district,” Superintendent of Police (city) Rakesh Jolly had told reporters.

Now it gets interesting. So, this Muslim cleric, actually caused or intensified a communal riot in Bareilly, giving hate speeches against Hindus? Sounds like a serious problematic person for communal harmony.

But wait, there’s more colourful history of this Maulana.

    Flashback 3: Apr 2, 2009
Congress President Sonia Gandhi lays down line as UP unit ropes in ‘Bush-haters’

Congress Party sources said that day that their President Sonia Gandhi was upset about the embarrassing episode of the party providing platform to Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) president Tauqeer Raza Khan at party headquarters without checking his antecedents and credentials. AICC General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Digvijaya Singh and State PCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi had roped in Khan for the election’s Muslim votes.

Interesting.. so, what was this controversial Khan doing at Congress headquarters?

    Flashback 4: Mar 26, 2009
AIIMC to support Congress in UP

On this day, Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, president of the All-India Ittehad-e-Millat Council (AIIMC), extended the support of his group, a part of the Barelvi sect to the Congress. The Congress planned to have seat adjustments with the AIIMC in the next Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, said Digvijaya Singh, General Secretary of the Congress in-charge of the State, to whom the Maulana was introduced at a press conference on this day.

So far, it is clear now that this cleric was arrested and released under pressure by BSP’s Mayawati in 2010, was roped in by Congress for seat adjustments an year earlier. But it still does not help why Sonia Gandhi was ‘upset’?

For which you have to revert back to the period beyond the last two years.

    Flashback 5: Mar 15, 2007
A Muslim body announces Rs 5 lakh for Taslima’s head

On his date, President of All India Muslim Personal Board (Jadeed) Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh on Bangladeshi writer Tasleema Nasreen’s head, if New Delhi does not restrict her entry into the country. “We demand that the Government should ban her entry into the country. If it is not done, anyone who beheads her will be given a reward of Rs five lakh,” he announced.

Wow! So, a person, now a Minister in 2013 in UP, under the world’s largest democracy’s much valued system, had publicly talked about medieval desert justice like beheading?

    Wait, there’s more.

Flashback 6: Date Unknown, Feb 2006
A bounty of Rs.25 crore announced, to anyone who beheads US President George W Bush

By his own admission at a later date Press conference at the Congress headquarters on 26 March 2009, Tauqeer Raza Khan had offered a bounty of Rs 25 crore to anyone who beheads Bush, just before George Bush’s Presidential visit to India in March 2006.

    End of Flashbacks:
Now our movie has run its full course.. ending is near.

Here’s a firebrand hate spewing Muslim cleric, who does not believe in any democracy as he had offered bounty to behead high profile guests, and has been picked by Akhilesh Yadav to be a Minister of State. And as a coincidence, look at his organisation’s name, which is similar to a South Indian communal political party, i.e., All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, of the recent infamous Akbaruddin Owaisi hate speech episode. Both are Ittehads. Both have leaders who believe in hate speech against Hindus. Both have incidents of extreme violence threat against writer Taslima Nasreen and there could be more.

So, someone who openly called for the assassination of your nation’s Presidential guest (Bush) and your female asylum seeker (Taslima), someone who was arrested for giving inflammatory hate speech against your nation’s majority population (Hindus) that resulted in bloody riots, is now a Minister of State in your largest State! And more importantly, BSP, SP and Congress, all the three self-claimed secular parties, have bowed in front of this medieval firebrand cleric.

Wah India.. wah! We have to bow to your ultra ‘secular’ standards!

    That is the tragedy!

He has fallen prey to Vote Bank politics, which is what we, as a Nation, must shun, if we are to bring honesty into politics.

If a Maulana with such a third rate track record is fine with Kejriwal, then why is so peeved about the industrialists, who maybe cutting huge corners, but they are at least doing some good for the Nation, which this Maulana isn't and instead this Maulana is dividing society!

I don't understand the point you are trying to make, Sir ?

He is a very influential leader of Barelvi Muslims. He had a meeting with Kejriwal. He said Kejriwal is a good guy. Tauqeer is not joining AAP.

Re: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal comes under fire over meeting Muslim cl

Depends on who is asking ?

Anyone who is supporting BJP and Congress just needs to find an excuse to sully Kejriwal's name. Did anyone attend JLP protests ? Should have seen the rumours being spread by BJP and Congress guys.

    ==

Anyone who is supporting AAP knows they are running a clean campaign and are not at all involved in divisive politics. From day one their agenda has been clear and it is not usurping power.

    ==

Anyone who is too idealistic and discredits AAP, can either choose NOTA (thanks to Kejriwal's campaign) or be hypocritical and go for either BJP or Congress.

    ==
AAP's votebank are the people who are against corruption, and tired of BJP and Congress. He must indulge in votebank politics and woo all those Indians tired of corruption.
    ==

Turn off the news, and concentrate on the big picture.

Re: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal comes under fire over meeting Muslim cl

    @Singh

I am unable to quote you because there is some problem with the DFI server.

For all I care, he maybe the Mufti of Mecca or the newly acknowledged Caliph of new Caliphate!

The fact that this Maulana has contribute nothing to India, and instead spewed venom and divided the society (apparently you do not wish to read Post #5) and been an anti social, anti national psychopath to announce huge rewards for the heads of people he does not like, like Bush and Tasleem, hardly makes him the person one would like to hobnob with!

That way one could even find Osama bin Laden charming. He never asked for anyone's head. All he did was ask for jihad against infidels and that is sanctioned by the Quaran, and so, in an Islamic way, Osama's call was kosher and legitimate in an Islamic way.

You can't say Osama is a bad Joe and at the same time, you laud this idiot cleric and break bread with him, when for Islamic reasons he announces huge rewards for the heads of Bush and Tasleem, can you?

    But then, Kejriwal requires vote.

If he also follows the path of the regular political parties, then what makes him different?

Now, what is th guarantee when he is in power, he will not do a Sheila Dixit and the Commonwealth Games and cosy up with the power lobbies?

AAP's votebank are those individuals who are sick and tired of corruption. Why shouldn't AAP woo them ?

AAP's raison d'etre for existence is to help give a voice and space for Indians who are against corruption.

If by Votebank Politics you mean either

    1. When one leader of a party says that he feels sorry that "Kuttay ke Bachcha" have come under my car, then hosts Sadbhavana mission and at the same time sends his right hand man to Ayodhya to signal his suppport for temple, and then tells students that he wants to build toilets instead of temples.

    2. When one party has screwed up the nation royally in its term, it announces a host of welfare schemes to target rural poor voters who vote en masse. And then do nothing for the nation, but at the last minute try to act like saviours ?

If a Maulana or Swami or Priest or Rabbi or a nobody endorses Kejriwal it doesn't affect me. But if Industrialists back a politician who will oblige them by allowing them to rape my pocket then it affects me.

I do not find any party which is not pandering to the Vote Bank.

    all are doing so.

However, I do not brook hypocrisy or tall tales of honesty, integrity or even secularism.

They are all guilty and stink.

    Kejriwal pretended to be clean.

He has now been found to have feet of clay.

If all are fed up with the dirty politics (as you claim and you are right) and Kejriwal is standing as the sole honest chap, which I thought he was, then why has he to go meeting Muslim clerics?

Pray why is he not meet the the Christian head of the Church?

And Kejriwal has stated that he has no truck with all this Vote Bank politics!

When it plunged into politics, Arvind Kejriwal's party had earlier claimed it will put an end to "nafrat ki rajniti" (politics of hatred, read vote-bank politics).

Kejriwal has an obligation and a duty to meet with people from across communities, there ought not to be any political pariah because some people hold him to an impossible standard. He needs to get views from across teh strata

I would be happy if he calls on Deobandi leaders, Shankaracharyas, Swamis, Dalit leaders, Priests, Rajput leaders, Industrialists, College students, housewives, ex-servicemen, villagers, LGBT activists, social activists, environmental activists etc.

If he has no mal-intention, then there is nothing wrong in meeting with people. If they happen to like him or endorse him, then its not his fault.

    ==
There is a guarantee that he will be finished. There is also a guarantee that BJP or Congress in power will not mend their ways.

For eg. Each BJP seat sells for 2-5 crores. If a person spends another 2-5 crores on campaigning, that means a minimum of 4 crores spent per election. BJP has been out of power for the last 15 years. Now, I don't think BJP MLA's are not spending crores of money because they want to serve me.

You only take into account, the constituency that have already decided their loyalties. Yes this incident might not affect their loyalties.
What about those who still have not made up their minds?
How this incident will affect them?
Mind you AAP even by their own survey is not ages ahead of competition.
Non- die hard followers are affected by this. ( can be positive or negative)

And not to forget, it was the TV and the news, the coverage that has made AAP and AK the bigger picture

It seems the BJP didn't have a problem when congress party members met Tauqeer Raza Khan. Now that Kejriwal ran into him on his visit to Bareilly, they have started mud-slinging.

The problem is Mr.Kejriwal himself. When you want to project yourself as the person with a difference from the established set of politicians whom he seems to despise, why is he so hell bent on copying them??

If he is winning so handsomely and is so confident on the radio ads why does he have to go to a religious leader to seek his blessings and support of his community. I would now call him a communal fellow. First it was the Batala House incident and now this.
I am loosing all respect that I had for him...

just wait for a few more days and he will declare that he is willing to support khangrass in case of hung house as CBI is after him now for his illegal funds and diversion of funds from even IAC movement to his own NGO. A thoroghly corrupt man is calling himself Raja Harishchandra.
his mask seems to be coming off faster than the cloths of a third rate sex wroker from GB road.
