A submarine launched Brahmos has been tested by IN. Mind you, IN has no submarines to launch them

During Nehruvian development there were mountains of steel, no cement production.

Can this phenomenon be ever curbed? Where is the solution. Why this snafu? Lack of political vision or military vision?

    Lol! Nehruvian Missile

If we don't have submarines we'll build underwater drones to fire them :heh:

Ability to build submarine comes first. Or second best, submarines capable of firing Brahmos come first. But suc subs are at least 10 years in future.

Groan. India cannot even design and build drones.

Now where does the fault lie? Over ambitious DRDO or lethargic govt?

    ok you say the hen.

We are building our own submarines the Arihant class.

note that both our strategic submarines and missile capabilities are either under trail or test phase. Under water launch capabilities is a capability that need to be realised before we have a under water launch platform both this projects are going side by side like the hen and egg story. note that the current low range capable missile are just the beginning glimpse of future strategic systems. (as in both the platform and the delivery)

Yes, yes, heard of this scam too. But Arhant is not ready to deploy those missiles. When will they be commissioned, I mean subs?

It was a joke, however DRDO is showing that it can convert any missile for the underwater launching platforms without much efforts and such capability is a game changer, hence I don't see it wrong to develop SLCM first.

Their is very little credible information about such (strategic)projects available in open source space but wish that by the time it is ready ( the submarine) we have capable strategic value delivery system to accompany it.

Again will it be the hen or the egg first??? :notsure:

By the time the subs are available, the missiles would be outdated, to say the least.

Arihant is under SATS currently, since Feb and will end in July. With BrahMos & K-15 ready, it can start WATS from August onwards and be commissioned by EoY.

We are already updating and upgrading Brahmos as far as we can, so it will go the same way simultaneously with subs.

The government policies that give all the monopoly to a PSU organization like DRDO. That is the root of the problem. While other sectors like telecom, IT, banking, etc. have surged ahead due to liberalization and excellent competition from private players, those sectors that are still in the Nehruvian mould continue to languish. DRDO is a fine example.

Until and unless the Tatas, Mahindras, L&T, and other private players set up a massive military industrial complex in India, DRDO will continue to churn out lethargic crap. And of course, with the quasi-socialist government policies and thorough resistance to reform, there is very limited hope in the near future.

I don't believe we don't have the subs yet. Like I said earlier, if we can launch Klubs from Kilos, it can fire the Brahmks too.

Below is how Klub is fired.

Announce 50% FDI in defence and see the result. We will get JVs in a hurry.

Defence procurement plan should change from offsets to Indian or Indian JVs for anything. It will be hard to implement but will bear results.

So if we need howitzers, clearly say it will be purchased from Indian or Indian JVs. Ask them to submit proposals. Make them compete. Prototypes to be developed. Funding can be provided by the govt for prototype development. Final contract to the winner.

even if Rome can be build in a day, we are still decades behind compared to those who have mastered it, so what would you suggest we should stop R&D because we lag behind them?
    this is rocket science.
