The article is talking of the Python V as a separate development to the LRAAM. However neither of the deals are happening. This article is from 2007.

Python V is a WVR missile with a small range. There are two models of the Astra being developed, one for the LCA with a range of 70-80Km and a Astra 2 with a range of 110-140Km(depends) for MKI. The Brazil-SA LRAAM falls short of Astra if range is considered.

Russia is developing a 110Km RVV-SD and 200Km RVV-BD for IAF and export. This is apart from Novator's K-100 with a range of 300Km and 400Km(with additional boosters).

So, these are the only developments going on that we know about. A2A missiles for PAKFA would be different. Meteor with Rafales are obvious.

Other than that we have purchased RVV-AE(R-77), R-27, Mica and Derby for different platforms. So, we have exercised 10 different BVR options(counting K-100 and not counting the ones for PAKFA), ranging from 50Km, 110Km, 200Km and 400Km. Probably the highest considered by any air force in the world.

There is a possibility of seeing Aim-120s on Jaguars too, but that is more for WVR capability than BVR because of the lack of a radar. The MKIs and Phalcons radars are always available though.

If we like the Israeli Stunner based AAM then we will have, the most diverse BVR inventory the world has ever seen. Maybe 15 options if we consider 2 or 3 missiles for PAKFA too. Stunner is based on hit to kill unlike other AAMs.



It is not such a large drawback as it is assumed. A full 360 degree capability is not necessary. Even Phalcons don't have to work at 360deg. All the extra power can be channeled to specific parts of the array for better capability.
You mean the longest ranging BVR with IAF inventory is 110 KM ?

Well there's the Novator K-100 as well. Its range is 400 Km.
But the numbers are low and as such reserved for special targets like an AWACS platform or an ELINT aircraft.

Not in the service just speculation like TU 22 and S 300.

Deliberately kept under wraps.

While Phalcon has max range of 350-400 km

In the maritime domain the Erieye ER, coupled with the Selex Galileo SeaSpray 7500E I-band (8 to 12.5 GHz) ventral radar in the GlobalEye application is capable of detecting ships out to the radar horizon at around 400 km and smaller contacts the size of jet skis and rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) at very long range beyond the 100 n miles quoted by Saab for the previous Erieye radar

You are trying to compare heavy long range (A-50U) and lite medium range AEW&C planes which are some sort of stupid and childish.
Each of them have their own niche which are not even cross each other not talking about rivalry.

Some days old, but interesting news:

Saab notes AEW&C sales successes in 2017

Saab secured SEK3.35 billion (USD420 million) in sales for its airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) systems in 2017, the company disclosed during its annual results briefing on 16 February.

The figure was secured across two separate sales announced in January and May of last year, valued at SEK2 billion and SEK1.35 billion respectively.

The nature of the AEW&C contracts was such that Saab declined to divulge further details on either deal, except to say that the first award would see deliveries from 2019 to 2021, with those for the second running from 2017 to 2020.

Saab did not disclose its customers in either of these instances, but it was reported at the time that the second SEK1.35 billion deal would probably cover three new Erieye aircraft for Pakistan. These would replace one Saab 2000-based Erieye aircraft that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) lost in an insurgent attack on its operating base in 2013, and augment the remaining three that were ordered in 2006 for a full-strength force of six.

If this order is for Pakistan, it is not clear if it will comprise the same Saab 2000 turboprop-based system as the country’s original order, or if it will be based on the company’s latest Global 6000 business jet-based GlobalEye that features the S-band (2 to 4 GHz) Erieye Extended Range (ER) radar.

While these latest two contracts have been shrouded in secrecy, Saab has previously publicised a deal for the GlobalEye with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the platform’s previously held moniker of Swing Role Surveillance System (SRSS). However, the company has consistently declined to discuss this contract since the initial announcement in 2015.

We are already in disadvantage wrt AWACS coverage to our enemies and it's bad enough to see how fast China is increasing it's technological capability, but if PAF gets their hand on the new Globaleye radar, it would be insane how we lost the BVR advantage from Kargil within the last 1.5 decades.
