So finally Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his strategist Amit Shah, his top cabinet ministers, top leaders of his party and cadres of RSS altogether couldn’t win Delhi. Narendra Modi has been defeated by a man who is comparatively a novice in politics. So what are the reasons for such a shameful defeat? I have worked on ground in Delhi on voting day & have been following Delhi politics since months and based on my observations here are roughly 7 reasons why BJP has been wiped out in Delhi:

    1) Kiran Bedi: Her announcement as Chief Ministerial candidate by BJP just couple of days before the elections was an erroneous decision. Here I remember Benjamin Franklin who observed – “ While a party is carrying on a general design, each man has his particular private interest in view. That soon as a party has gained its general point, each member becomes intent upon his particular interest; which thwarting others, breaks that party into divisions, and occasions more confusion.” Members of BJP’s Delhi unit after attaining spectacular victory in Lok Sabha polls aspired of pursuing their private interests, an intent which was shattered by imposing Kiran Bedi.

Bedi was unacceptable to Delhi BJP members as their leader. They campaigned for her half heartedly. Bedi’s announcement crushed ambitions of few senior leaders in Delhi BJP.

Anna Hazare in an exclusive interview to ABP News

    2) Anna Hazare: Just few days before Delhi elections, Gandhian Anna Hazare launched a verbal assault against Narendra Modi in an interview on ABP News which was thence followed by other channels. Anna expressed his displeasure on Modi governent’s performance and alleged that he has made fake promises. He also attacked Modi on land acquisition ordinance by pointing out that it is anti farmer and anti poor. He also indicated that in coming days he will launch an intense agitation against Modi government.

    3) Amit Shah : BJP President Amit Shah’s statement on ABP News that pre-poll promise made by Narendra Modi to deposit 15 lakhs in citizen’s bank account which was to be recovered as black money was just a Rajneetik Jumla (political phrase) back fired. It dented credibility of BJP as a political party and has led to a question whether other similar pre-poll announcements are also just political phrases?

    4) Target AAP: Targetting AAP by BJP in general and Narendra Modi in particular turned out to be counter productive. BJP’s anti AAP campaign added weight to AAP’s campaign and also garnered AAP more time on television channels.

    5) Over confidence on Narendra Modi’s image: BJP’s think tank has failed to detect that during past few months Narendra Modi has acquired an image of a person of rhetoric and not of a performer. Modi’s Karishma seems to be diminishing. Top leadership erroneously assumed that Modi’s speeches will fetch votes like they have done in Loksabha polls and recent Vidhan Sabha polls of Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand.

Indian Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal waves to supporters as he celebrates victory in the state assembly elections outside the party's headquarters in New Delhi on February 10, 2015.(Source: AFP)

    6) Arvind Kejriwal: He learnt from his past mistakes and smartly chalked out his election campaign which included youth participation and use of social media on the patterns which BJP adopted during Loksabha polls. No “anarchy” was seen in his party this time.

    7) Weak Congress: It seems that Congress was convinced of its rout since the beginning of election process and didn’t fight the elections aggressively. The loyal minority and slum area votes shifted totally to AAP and BJP was not able to gain in minority areas due to division of votes.-

Delhi assembly election results once again highlight that Indian politics is very volatile and unpredictable.

Why did the attacks on places of worship increase after PM took over? I had not heard of any attack of church in the New Delhi as late as December 2014 and it took place just before citizens were supposed to vote, can some one give me what is going on at city or street level?

    That should tell you everything.

Plus I am sure you never heard of vandalism of 265 temples in Delhi alone.

because attacks on crcuhes/mosque/ and other attracts media attenation and also every once is free to visit

While in hindu temples if one down-trodden visits siddhi-puja starts so why fu1k should give whether temple is attacked or not ..

loos at most temples how dirty they are mots of their floors are sticky with not crowd management

Look only what can save future BJP gov is perfromance all this sh1t of protecting temples/cruches are not going to work

BJP waal`s would always be attacked whether cruches are attacked by right wing or not ..

If they want to be in goverance in future then have to prevent riots when they are ruling .....

Is not that when they ruling riots would happen and they we say we dont have do any thing with riots

If and when riots happens while BJP is ruling always they would be automatically blamed on RW..

so control riots and catch mis-cheif makers and punished them...

As somebody said "protect each as if they are Indians" and give sh1t whether any muslims or christsians vote for you since they are never going to vote for you

None of the seven reason given by the lead article has any validity except one, Kiran Bedi. She is no a leadership material.

Reason forgotten above and which made the difference were free water and electricity, regularizing the illegal colonies, picking up a fight with gas companies to lower prices, the national capital tired of 15 years of Congress Raj, they wish to hand over governing to a new commer, no matter how stupid he is and how stupid and left oriented his team is.

Delhites will learn soon, probably get tired of confrontations, fights, Dharnas and slugfest day after day. That is when they would like to dump Kejriwal but he will not resign, because he has promised five years of Raj.

Look what i think is failing in to deliever promises is their root cause of failure

New age mantra for urban/youth /liberal population is simple deliver on what you promise and what not one cannot delivered should not be promised ... Perform or perish

Just like now they have ordered sit probe in 84 riots.this should have been done prior to elections .After getting dust they have know allowed it . AAP is going to have credit for it ...

Similar for other promises .If they have promised full state hood they should deliver it or donot promise moon when one cannot deliever ....

No body atlest from section of urban hindu youths gives f@@k about temple/mosque/chruch beging attacked/robed , most of them are places of high corruption

On the other hand i donot know about how rural/population would react when/where caste arithmeticians are at play ..

I mean at delhi in order to beat BJP this parties i.e BSP/sp/JD(u) havent thrown 100 percent waitage >if they think they cannot control AAP in their aera then they are acting stupidly....

Hmm..Kejriwal/AAP has appointed as Deputy CM Manish Sisodia - intention is clear enough. Kejriwal will be free for canvassing/spreading party agenda in other states or even for his next resignation as next Lok Sabha elections(2019) are before next Delhi Asembly (2020) assuming he does not run away in 49 days yet again...
