5th arrest in Pune blast case, IM planned fidayeen attack: police

Indian Mujahideen terrorists were planning to carry out a 'fidayeen' attack at Bihar's Bodh Gaya to avenge "atrocities" against Muslims in Myanmar, Delhi Police on Friday claimed after arresting a fifth man in connection with Pune serial blasts this August.

Sayed Maqbool, a resident of Maharashtra's Nanded whom police claimed is the district president of All India Majlis Itehad-ul Muslimeen which has an MP in Lok Sabha, was apprehended from Hyderabad on October 23, S N Srivastava, Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said.

Maqbool, a fruit-seller who allegedly taught suspected IM terrorists on how to make IEDs, is the fifth person to be arrested in connection with the August Pune blasts 1 to avenge the killing of operative Qateel Siddique in Yerwada Jail.

"Maqbool was in close association with the four others -- Asad Khan, IUmran Khan, Sayed Feroz and Langde Irfan Mustafa -- who were arrested and together they planned to commit fidayeen attacks on Buddhist shrines in Bodh Gaya," Srivastava claimed.

The suspected terrorists had got the approval of IM'sRiyaz Bhatkal, a fugitive believed to be in Pakistan, for carrying out the attack as a "retaliation to the alleged atrocities on Muslims in Myanmar," he claimed.

Maqbool first came in contact with Imran and later was introduced to the other members of the group. He allegedly taught them how to make IEDs using urea, diesel and fire cracker power at Asad's farm house in Aurangabad, he said.

"In April this year, Imran introduced him to Bhatkal brothers. The gang had earlier discussed plans to carry out a fidayeen attack in Bodh Gaya. Since Bhatkals wanted to avenge the death of Siddiqui, they decided to carry out the blast in Pune first," Srivastava said.

ATS arrests 8th suspect in Pune blasts, News - City - Mumbai Mirror
Son of a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator arrested

Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 04:34:09 AM

A 40-year-old has been arrested by the Nasik unit of Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in connection with last year's low-density serial blasts in Pune. The accused, identified as Bunty Jahagirdar, was picked up on Sunday from Shrirampur taluka of Ahmednagar district, where he works as a social activist.

The ATS is currently investigating his suspected role in funding the Pune attacks and providing explosives to Ahmednagar's Irfan Landge, who was arrested earlier for his role in the blasts. One person was injured when three low-intensity blasts shook the posh Jangli Maharaj Road on August 1.

Shortly after the blasts, the Delhi Police had arrested four people from different parts of India, while the Maharashtra ATS had nabbed three people allegedly belonging to the banned Indian Mujahideen. Jahagirdar, who is son of a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Razia from Shrirampur Municipal Council, is the eight person arrested in the case.

Jahagirdar was on the radar of intelligence agencies ever since his arrest in August 2006 for helping an ISI spy Arif Lakhani. He has 10 cases registered against him and was externed from Ahmednagar for two years. During his externment period, Jahagirdar had gone to stay at Bhiwandi, where he came in touch with the members of Gujarat Riots Revenge Force. He had also stayed at Mumbai's MLA hostel during his externment.

On Monday, ATS officials produced him in the Mumbai MCOCA court, which remanded to police custody till January 24. "He is being interrogated for his role in arranging and transferring funds for execution of the terror act. Also he will be questioned to check if he had any role in arrangement of explosives used in the bombs that were planted at the spot," said an ATS officer. "Further probe is on to find if there were others involved in the conspiracy," he added.
