To most of you, this is but a fairy tale. But to those who are older, it is a nostalgic journey. I remember one had to patiently wait for 8 years after registering with the CSD for a scooter, one finally got one! It was a moment of rejoicing as if a child had been born in the family. Those were the days where being poor was a matter not shameful! We were taught to be frugal. It was natural to stand in queues for hours, even for a 10P postage stamp and going for a movie was something of a way out entertainment. And one had arrived if one had a transistor radio! Then came Doordarshan with it grainy black and white pictures and we thought India had hit modernity! Those were the days my friend. Let us think of those days and learn to jealously guard our new found freedom (to some extent) from babudom and abject poverty. Let us also pledge to help our countrymen to rise to levels we have reached today!
