    SRINAGAR: Two policemen were shot dead by militants on Monday near a police station at Nowgam area here.

    The heavily-armed militants opened indiscriminate firing on a police party returning to Nowgam police station around 10 pm, police officials said.

    Head constable Abdul Khaliq and constable Farooq Ahmad were critically injured in the attack. They were shifted to a nearby hospital but were declared brought dead by doctors, they said.

    The militants escaped from the scene in the cover of darkness. Security forces have cordoned off the area.

    No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
