Why don't you hire 100-200 Saudi clerics to travel with the polio teams and convince the parents?

Saudi clerics are only good for jihad. They might help with the campaign and save children from polio but we'll be stuck with more suicide bombers. The less exposure to Saudis the better.

Pakistan set to record highest number of polio cases: officials:namaste::namaste::namaste:

ISLAMABAD: Health officials in Pakistan on Thursday said the country was set to break its record for the highest number of polio cases in a year, as militants continue to prevent vaccination efforts.

"The number of polio cases, recorded this year has reached 187 and if it reaches 200, we will cross our own record of 199 in year 2000," Rana Muhammad Safdar, a senior official at the Pakistan National Institute of Health told news agency AFP.

A senior official of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Islamabad confirmed the new number of polio cases, adding the figure was likely to cross 200 by year-end.

Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic but efforts to stamp it out have been badly hit in recent years by attacks on immunisation teams.

Related: Three more polio cases confirmed

Some 59 people including health workers and police providing security have been killed in militant attacks on polio vaccination teams since December 2012.

Safdar, who also heads the federal Expanded Programme on Immunisation, said 130 of the cases reported were from the troubled northwestern tribal areas that border Afghanistan and are home to Pakistani Taliban and al Qaeda militants.

The militants allege polio vaccination is a cover for espionage or Western-conspiracy to sterilise Muslims.

The WHO official said the Pakistani strain of the virus had spread to neighbouring Afghan provinces. Afghanistan has recorded a total of seven cases this year.

Polio cases reached a low of 28 in 2005 but rose to 198 in 2011. In 2012, Pakistan had 58 cases while 72 were recorded in 2013.

Officials have said tens of thousands of children were missing a polio eradication campaign every year "because of the law and order situation," in tribal areas as well as family and parents unwilling or afraid to vaccinate.

As Pakistan moves into its post-monsoon period, officials fear the final figure could rise as high as 250.

Militant opposition to vaccination has increased after Pakistani doctor Shakil Afridi attempted to help the CIA track down former al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden through a fake vaccine project.

Big Lie.

Never hear such sympathies for 3 million Bangladeshis killed and 200,000 women raped.Your thirst of blood was not over and now you are after Baloch.

Balochistan has become a International issue of serious Human Rights by Pak Army.

Recent news of Baloch Freedom Fighters killed : Sep16,2014 Balochistan deaths: Strike held over dismembered Panjgur bodies – The Express Tribune

QUETTA: Outrage grew in Balochistan on Thursday over the shocking discovery of human remains in two gunny sacks near a seasonal river in the troubled Panjgur district a day earlier, spilling into a complete transport and business strike in different parts of the province.

The bodies were found on Wednesday near Rakshaan Nadi in the province's western Panjgur district when some passersby spotted the sacks and informed the police. Nationalist party workers believe the remains belong to Baloch political workers.Business and trade activities in Panjgur, Gwadar, Kech, Wadh, Kharan and other townships of Balochistan came to a standstill. Strict security measures were in place to thwart the possibility of any untoward incident. The strike was called by the Baloch Warna Movement and Baloch National Front against the recovery of the dead in Khuzdar, Panjgur, Awaran and Kech districts. Activists of nationalist parties claim that three people were kidnapped and killed in illegal detention in Wadh area of Khuzdar.

The Baloch nationalist parties said that the government functionaries were responsible for the killings. Balochistan National Party said that three people killed in an encounter in Khuzdar were innocent and had gone missing a month ago.

'Bodies a year old'

"There were human bones inside the bags which we later shifted to state-run hospital for medical examination," a police officer said. "The bodies are around a year old. We do not have a forensic department and DNA samples will be sent to Islamabad or Lahore to ascertain the identities of the bodies," he said.

Police routinely send samples of human remains found in different parts of Balochistan to forensic labs in Lahore and Karachi, but the tests have yet to be returned. While officials say around 20 bodies have been found in this year alone, Voice for Baloch Missing Persons says more than 2,000 bodies found in the province over the last eight years belong to Baloch political activists. The organisation accuses security forces of killing and dumping the bodies. How-ever, security forces and the Home Department deny all charges and say they are investigating the matter. In a separate incident, a person identified as Rehmatullah Lal Mohammed was shot dead in Panchekana area of Panjgur. The motive behind the murder could not be known.

Targeted killings and clashes between security forces and separatists often take place in Panjgur and in recent months, clashes were also reported between rival pro- and anti-government groups here.

Future in peril: With 7 more cases, 194 children now infected with polio:wave::wave::wave:

PESHAWAR: Poliovirus continued to run wild in the country as by Thursday, seven more children had been diagnosed with the preventable disease which has infected at least 194 children in the country so far this year.
Till Thursday afternoon, the National Institute of Health, Islamabad had confirmed the presence of the virus in four-month-old Zubaid, son of Zafar, a resident of Jehangirabad village in Sheikhan union council, Peshawar.
According to an official of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa health department, the child had not received a single dose of the oral polio vaccine. He added Sheikhan UC is located along the border with Khyber Agency and a majority of the area's children could not be vaccinated in the government's much vaunted Sehat ka Insaf drive.
However, by the late evening, six more children had tested positive for the virus. These included one from Peshawar, two from Khyber Agency and one each from Karachi, North Waziristan Agency and Mardan. The samples had been collected between September 3 and September 20.
So far, out of the 194 total, 134 cases have been reported from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, 35 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 18 from Sindh, five from Balochistan and two from Punjab.

Pakistan polio cases at 14-year high

ISLAMABAD: The number of polio cases recorded in Pakistan this year has surged to the highest level in 14 years after several new incidences of the disease were reported, health authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday.

"We have recorded 15 fresh cases of polio in last two days, the number of polio cases has reached 202 for this year," a senior official at the Pakistan National Institute of Health in Islamabad told AFP, adding that the annual tally had surpassed the previous record of 199 cases in 2000.

A WHO official in Islamabad confirmed the number of polio cases recorded.

Saira Afzal Tarar, Pakistan deputy minister for health, said the fresh cases came from the areas where "polio teams received threats".

"All these cases were recorded in the areas where we have security problems," Tarar told a private TV channel.

Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic but efforts to stamp it out have been badly hit in recent years by attacks on immunisation teams.

Some 59 people including health workers and police providing security have been killed in militant attacks on polio vaccination teams since December 2012.

Officials said 136 cases reported were from the troubled northwestern tribal areas that border Afghanistan and are home to Taliban and al Qaeda militants.

The militants allege polio vaccination is a cover for espionage or Western-conspiracy to sterilise Muslims.

Bomb Kills Polio Vaccinator in North West Pakistan: Officials:laugh::laugh:

PESHAWAR: A roadside bomb exploded in northwest Pakistan on Wednesday killing an off-duty polio vaccinator and his relative while wounding another worker, officials said.

The blast occurred in the Ali Nagar village of the Mohammad tribal district along the Afghan border where Taliban militants are active.

The bomb went off near the house of polio vaccinator Mohammad Gul who was out walking with his brother, also a polio worker, and his cousin, although it was not clear whether they were specifically targeted.

"One polio worker (Gul's brother) and his cousin were killed while another polio worker was wounded," local government official Akbar Hussain told AFP.

Nobody claimed responsibility for the bombing, but militants have been aggressively targeting immunisation workers across Pakistan

The militants allege polio vaccination is a cover for espionage or Western-conspiracy to sterilise Muslims.

Those conspiracy theories gained further traction after the CIA recruited a local doctor to start a vaccination programme during the hunt for Osama Bin Laden which dismayed many aid and health workers.

The number of polio cases recorded in Pakistan passed 200 for the the year last week, a 14-year-high.

Some 60 people including health workers and police providing security have been killed in militant attacks on polio vaccination teams since December 2012.

A local security official confirmed the bombing and casualties.

Officials said 136 cases reported were from the troubled northwestern tribal areas that border Afghanistan and are home to Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants.

India warns Pakistanis against 'forged polio certificates' – The Express Tribune

ISLAMABAD: India has warned Pakistanis applying for a visa to the country not to use fake polio vaccination certificates.

The Indian High Commission issued a statement on Wednesday warning that such visa applications would be rejected and the applicants permanently denied entry to India.

"It has been reported that forged polio certificates are being submitted with India visa applications. This is a serious offence.

Detection of any forged documentation would result in summary rejection of the visa application and permanent denial of visa for future travel also," reads the statement.

Visa applicants are being advised to comply strictly with the polio certification requirements. Pakistan leads a list of the remaining few countries in the world where polio cases are still being reported.

Pakistan accounts for 80 per cent of polio cases globally: WHO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, which accounts for nearly 80 per cent of polio cases globally, remains the "greatest single risk" to eradicating the crippling disease due to a ban imposed by militants on immunisation, the WHO has said. The World Health Organisation in its progress report held Pakistan responsible for failing to curb the surge in polio cases after the country reported 206 new cases this year, surpassing its earlier peak of 199 cases detected in 1999. "Pakistan remains the greatest single risk to the achievement of global polio eradication," the report said. It said the situation is primarily "due to a lack of access to children for vaccination, largely owing to a continuing ban on immunisation imposed by militants in the North and South Waziristan, and insecurity and killing of polio workers in the field." "Issues involving children's access to immunisation and safety of vaccinators must be resolved to ensure that the programme can be completed," the report said. Pakistan faces massive resistance to its anti-polio efforts by Taliban militants, who consider polio vaccines a conspiracy to sterile Muslims and regularly attack polio workers and their police escorts to discourage anti-polio campaigns. More than 16,000 children were missed around Peshawar, the provincial capital of militancy-hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, earlier this month as their parents refused to let their kids be immunised. Pakistan, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria, are the only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic. The WHO in May imposed travel restrictions on people travelling from Pakistan to other countries. India, a polio-free country, was the only nation which imposed such restrictions even before the WHO took action against Pakistan.

He's a hatemonger with a very sick mind. Ignore him and his ar*elickers.

These kids are humans first, then anything else and need our sympathy and protection.
True that. What they actually need is public awareness and education in terms of polio and its effects irrespective of their primitive thinking. Or the government should make it compulsory and should fine or jail parents who refuse to give the doses to their children.
