Good, so they have canisterised it, or they have used a Chinese cansiterised launcher, I think it reduces signature greatly. However can launch be detected ? As I have noticed Canister hatch is opened for a second or two ?

Nirbhay likely to be test-fired in April

    T.S. SUBRAMANIAN

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a new sub-sonic cruise missile called Nirbhay (Fearless in Sanskrit), which may be test-fired in April.

This is the first time that India has developed a cruise missile that will travel at a sub-sonic speed (less than the speed of sound). India and Russia have jointly developed BrahMos, a supersonic, cruise missile, which travels for 290 km at 2.8 Mach (2.8 times the speed of sound).

India felt the need for developing a sub-sonic cruise missile with a long range, and the upshot is Nirbhay. The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), a DRDO facility in Bangalore, has designed Nirbhay, the equivalent of Lakshya, which is a pilotless target aircraft developed by the ADE. Nirbhay has many technologies derived from Lakshya. The maximum speed of Lakshya is 0.65 Mach. Nirbhay is India's equivalent of Tomahawk, a long-range, sub-sonic cruise missile, developed by the U.S.

Nirbhay is a two-stage, surface-to-surface missile. While a booster engine would “kick the first stage” from the ground, the second stage has a turbo-prop engine, akin to an aircraft's. It can carry multiple payloads and engage several targets. “Even if there are multiple targets, it can pick out a target and attack it. It is a loitering missile; it can go round and round a target, perform several manoeuvres and take it apart. It has precision, endurance and accuracy. It is an important missile,” DRDO officials said.

With a range of more than 750 km, Nirbhay can remain in the air for a long time. Capable of flying at the height of a tree (so, it is known as “tree-top missile), it can soar to a minimum of 10 km and a maximum of 50 km.

if you know how Lakshya works then you will be very happy with nirbhay................... specially the part where they said multiple payloads and engage several targets.

Saya sir I guess in DFI many have predicted that Nirbhay will have lot of technologies derived from Lakshya

I guess they will share same engine too, what you say

    Lakshya has

    IB PTAE7

    ptae7

    there is Laghu Shakti engine.

    ngdkkn

we have to keep in mind range of 700-1500 km for nirhbay while the range of Lakshya is only 150 km (93.2 mi).

one more question, I don't think this was previously stated, or it is a simple case of misinterpretation

Nitesh if you know what Lakshya can do you will get your answer, including the multi target part.

Lakshya has those two towed bodies (think of them as additional weapons for nirbhay) thereafter it just programmed with various ways in which air defence need to be practice including going in circle. Air defence guys thereafter try to shoot the towed bodies.
Kunal sir is in much better way to explain lakshya.

now, you can add the dots. Plus with the advances they have made specially in brahmos and shurya missile, they are able to play with this in many ways.

Does the Laghu Shakthi engine belong to PTA?

Interesting India could develop accurate ballistic and hypersonic missile, but they have taken a helluva lot on a subsonic missile.

because we are not very good at engines, but we are learning fast.

According to current news information about Nirbhay cruise missile, the design should look some thing like this.................
    nirbhay

actually such a design will have less risk of design issue which will share design with Lakshya PTA and experience gained in such design, anyways a Tomahawk type design will look more compact and less cucumbersome to pop it out of a vertical launcher, but Lakshya PTA type design will have less risk of failure due to the experience gained in aerodynamics of such an aircraft and we are in need of a medium and long range cruise missile asap.

    How about such a design?
    l8s5k

This is actually a Russian SS-14-N AShM, with a big rocket engine added the range of the cruise missile can definitely increased the range

    What say?
