Army successfully test fires BrahMos Block-II land attack version

The Army today successfully conducted field test firing of land attack version of BrahMos Block-II supersonic cruise missile in Pokharan field firing range near here.
The missile was fired from a mobile launching pad around 0915 hrs this morning and it hit the bull's eye, a target placed about 25 kms away in Ajasar block, in a perfect manner, a defence spokesman said.
The last test firing of the missile, developed by DRDO under joint Indo-Russian project, was conducted in Pokharan on March 29 the spokesman added.

Hahah... bulls eye!!!....cant get better than this.....this means,the blk2 version of the brahmos would be inducted asap,maybe by early 2010 induction would start....great news

Its Brahmos Block II not the Brahmos-2. It was already tested and is being inducted into the army mate.

Brahmos 2 is similar to Brahmos in all aspects, except for one: it's guidance system. Its guidance system is tailor made to hit land targets, which requires the missile to fly through obstacles, and identify the right target from the cluster.

That's Brahmos Block 2 Amit... Brahmos-II will be the hypersonic variant Brahmos which is still on the drawing table...

I think he meant Block 2 only . Brahmos 2 has moved from drawing table and have achieved Mach 5 under ground test conditions.

Jaisalmer: The Block-II version of the BrahMos land attack cruise missile successfully completed its fourth and final test firing on Wednesday and has now been declared ready for induction. In a test firing at the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan, the missile went on to score a "bull's eye" hit on a target 25km away on Wednesday.

The previous test-firing of the Block-II land attack version took place 29 March 2009.

"The missile took off successfully and hit the desired target at Ajasar area range situated 25 km away from launching pad, meeting all mission parameters," defence sources said.

The missile had failed its first test firing, leading to a second test in short order which was a success.

"With this launch, the requirement of Army for the land attack version with Block-II advanced seeker software with target discriminating capabilities has been fully met and this version is ready for induction," defence sources said.

The Block-II version with sophisticated target discriminating software will provide enhanced capabilities to the army, allowing it to select a particular land target among a group of targets.
