    Software for BrahMos project

Researchers at Thiagarajar College of Engineering here have been involved in developing enhanced software capability for the BrahMos missile. The researchers worked on the project for three years and the new software will be evaluated and implemented in future or advanced versions of the missile, according to Mr A. Sivathanu Pillai, Chief Controller (Research and Development), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The software will help the missile ‘view' its target , by correlating the target with satellite images The project was funded by BrahMos Aerospace. Validation of the software will take place within a year, he said, while inaugurating a two-day conference organised by Velammal College of Engineering and Technology, here, on Thursday. — Our Correspondent

No final contract yet on Brahmos integration on Indian Su-30MKI’s

Integration of the Russia-India BrahMos supersonic missile with the Sukhoi Su-30MKI multi-role fighter jet may start in the near future, Machine Building Research and Production Center leading designer Igor Kharlamov told Interfax-AVN on Friday, at the Machine Building Technologies 2010 forum in Zhukovsky.

“A contract on the BrahMos integration with the Su-30MKI is being drafted. It will be presented to Indian partners soon,” he said.
The draft contract enumerates prospective works and estimates their cost, as well as the deadline for testing BrahMos missiles within the Su-30MKI system.

“The Indian Air Force will assign two jets for the testing and develop the missile launcher for integrating the missile into the plane system. All types of land and flight tests will be done, and a report will be drafted on the system worthiness,” he said.

The works may take 30 months. The works will start as soon as the contract is signed and the funding begins.

    Armanda,

You're a complete idiot. Your rationale is based on your assumption that the Bramos cannot pinpoint its target while in reality, it did and continues to do that. The reason why IA offials use reflectors in the tests is not for testing Brahmos's ability to pinpoint its targets, but examining its abiltiy to hit its target in the case that the target uses jammers such as reflectors to resist Brahmos's attack -- try to confuse Brahmos seeker, so your argument is useless and silly. After all, do you really think, and I bet you do, due to your arguments above, that men of DRDO and IA are less smarter than you?

    Export Market of Brahmos Missile

The Inter-Governmental Agreement signed by Governments of India and Russia, while forming the Joint Venture (JV) for developing supersonic cruise missile, stipulates that the missile will be inducted in the Armed Forces of India and Russia and also will be exported to friendly countries. Therefore, the Government of India in consultation with Government of Russia will export Brahmos cruise missile to friendly countries taking into account the security needs of the both countries.

The Brahmos joint venture has participated in many International Exhibitions and some countries have shown interest to buy. But, no decision has been taken by the Government regarding the countries to whom the missile can be sold.

Presently, the Brahmos missiles are being produced for meeting the requirements for Indian Army, Navy and Air Force on priority. Export will start only after meeting minimum requirements of India.

There is an Inter-Governmental Agreement signed between India and Russia on export of Brahmos missile. This also has approval of the Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission for Military Technical Cooperation for export.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in a written reply to Shri Lal Chand Kataria in Lok Sabha today.

India, Russia Likely To Export BrahMos

By admin at 12 August, 2010, 9:47 am

    BY: AVIATION WEEK

An intergovernmental agreement (IGA) signed by New Delhi and Moscow stipulates that the missile will be inducted into the armed forces of India and Russia and also will be exported to certain shared allies.

Though the export of the missile has been discussed for many years, nothing concrete has happened. It is still too early to know which nations would be identified first, according to one Indian official. “It will be a decision taken after a lot of deliberations,” the official said.

“The missile will be exported to friendly countries after taking into account the security needs of both [Indian and Russia],” Indian defense minister A.K. Antony said. “Many countries have shown interest to buy these missiles, but no decision has been taken as to whom the missile can be sold.”

Presently, the Brahmos missiles are being produced for the Indian army, navy and air force. Export will start only after meeting the minimum requirements of India. In addition to the IGA, the missile has the approval of the Indo-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Military Technical Cooperation for Export.

AVIATION WEEK reported in May this year, following a facility visit to the BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram (BATL), that an air version of the missile is currently under development and will be fitted on to the Su-30MKI fighter (Aerospace DAILY, May 27). “The prototype of the missile launcher is ready from our side and we are awaiting a critical system from HAL Nasik to be fitted on to it,” an official said Aug. 11. “The trials would then begin on the Su-30MKI platform.”

A hypersonic version of the missile is also in the works and the design aspects are likely to be finalized very soon. The new missile will be ready for testing by 2015, Indian sources said. The export of BrahMos will be a huge boost to India’s military might.

“After Dhruv choppers, it will be a great achievement if we can identify a couple of nations to export these missiles [to],” one source said. “It would also put India into a league of countries that exports military wares.”

A bit off-topic, but till when can all our tri-services be linked and networked as one single fighting force including FINSAS of Army and the entire IAF fighter fleet alongside Navy's warships and fighters? I heard that 19 out of 24 satellites are already up and need the remaining for complete networked fighting unit.

The Hindu : News / National : BrahMos induction into IAF by 2013

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, jointly developed by India and Russia and which can travel at speeds of 2.5 to 2.8 mach, is likely to be inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF) by 2013, a top official said on Wednesday.

The IAF version of the precision-attack low-flying missile would be completing its air-to-ground tests by 2012.

“We expect it to be inducted in IAF by 2013,” CEO and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace (BAL) A. Sivathanu Pillai told reporters on the margins of the second international space exhibition and conference here.

BrahMos, which has already been inducted in the Indian Army and the Indian Navy, can carry a payload of 200 to 300 kg of explosives.

The Sukhoi SU-30MKI combat jet has been chosen as the aircraft to be fitted with the BrahMos. The aircraft is being modified for the purpose.

“The aircraft has to undergo certain modifications,” Mr. Pillai said.

The Bangalore-based Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) is building the modified version of the Russian-made aircraft for reducing its weight and giving it additional propulsion.

A prototype of the aircraft is also being built and tested in Russia.

The BrahMos is capable of attacking from land-to-ship, ship-to-land and ship-to ship, Mr. Pillai said.

The IAF version will have the capacity of attacking large targets from air to ground.

The missile, being developed by BAL, a joint venture between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroeyenia, costs around 1,500 crore.

The BrahMos will also be tested for its underwater performance, Mr. Pillai said.
“We are even looking into the aspect of fitting it on the submarines to attack ships and underwater elements (submarines). The technology is ready but the platform for testing has to be built,” he said.

The BrahMos missile has evoked interest in several countries. Many want to buy it but they may have to wait till India completes its induction into its defence forces.

“The export market will have to wait till India inducts the missile in the armed forces. Next is the turn of the Russian military,” Mr. Pillai added.

The India-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission for Military Technical Cooperation has approved the idea of catering to the export market.

The JV has also plans to build a hyper-sonic cruise missile that travels five times faster than a sound wave, Mr. Pillai said, adding the technology is yet to be developed.

^^ So basically, by the year end, they'd be putting up all 24 required satellites? Neither ISRO nor Roscosmos made any statement on this.
